Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable living and learning environment in the residence halls and designated student life areas of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. This position is highly visible throughout the department and the University. This position interacts on a frequent basis with students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the University. All Housing and Student Life Operations staff are expected to represent the department and university well in these interactions. This position will require the employee to function at the journey level in all aspects pertaining to building systems and trades. Primary responsibilities will be preventative and reactive maintenance on various trades and building systems in all residence hall buildings and other student life facilities. Trades and systems include plumbing, electrical/electronics, HVAC, fire protection, carpentry, and locksmith. All Housing and Student Life Operations staff are designated as critical personnel for University.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
Technical or trade school completion.
Trade certifications and/or licensure. Trade specific course completion or continuing education classes in trades.
Minimum 3 years of experience in building maintenance or trade related field.
Work experience in a residential and/or educational setting.
Experience and demonstrated skill in multiple trades, the ideal candidate will have advanced skill in at least one trade preferably HVAC and/or electrical.

Work Schedule and Hours
Work schedule is primarily Monday – Friday 8:00am -5:00pm. Due to the nature of position and department needs there will be occasional weekend work and on call responsibilities. The employee is expected to respond to campus within 30 minutes when assigned to on-call duty. The employee will be compensated for on-call responsibilities in accordance with UNC Asheville policy. Emergency maintenance needs within the Student Affairs division require that this position is subject to emergency calls twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. All Housing Operations staff are designated as critical personnel in accordance with UNC Asheville policy.
