Job Summary: The lift maintenance mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of all lifts, the lift maintenance facility and related equipment and machinery. The Lift Maintenance has two work locations on Whitefish Mountain Resort. One is located in the Metal Shop in the Village area and the other shop is located in the “top shop” adjacent to the upper terminal of Chair 1. A majority of the work is done on each of the individual chairlifts located throughout Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Job Specifications:
- High school diploma, some college, trade school, or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic experience required.
- Minimum of two years of specific detachable & fixed grip chairlift experience preferred.
- Must understand the basic mechanical and electrical functions of machinery, equipment and hydraulics related to chairlifts and auxiliary power units.
- Must be capable of filling in for the Lift Maintenance Manager if situation calls for it.
- Be comfortable working at heights up to 70 feet above the ground including towers, poles, ladders and structures making safety a priority. This work may be done alone or with other staff members.
- Must be able to operate or be trained to operate a snowmobile and/or track vehicles safely. Snowmobile operation required in varying weather to service lifts.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be authorized for WSI insurance coverage.
- Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.
- Required to have own personal hand tools: combination wrenches 3/8 inch to 1 1/8 inch & metric 8mm to 30mm, ratchet wrenches & sockets, pliers, screw drivers, pry bars, punches, hammers, drill bits to ½”, one multi-meter capable of 600V, etc.
- Winter weather uniforms provided, extra cold weather gear is your responsibility
- Must be able to provide every guest with a high level of customer service at all times.
- Must be able to work within the framework of the company and department policies and procedures as set forth in the employee manuals.
Specific Duties:
- Performs lift terminal service and adjustments, both as part of scheduled maintenance or troubleshooting/repair.
- Performs line machinery service and adjustment, both as part of scheduled maintenance or troubleshooting/repair.
- Participates in any or all aspects of lift construction as directed.
- Sand, paint, refurbish lift towers or structures.
- Rebuild machinery as part of scheduled maintenance or as troubleshooting/repair dictates.
- Welding and cutting torch operation with an ability to fabricate steel components for lift operation.
- Able to properly operate a 600 volt multi-meter.
- Support other departments in the conduct of their duties by operating the lifts in absence of the lift operations staff.
- Daily complete documenting in the work log for all repairs and maintenance completed on all lifts.
- Perform tasks as assigned by the Lift Maintenance Manager relating to lift operations, including cleanup after each work project.
- Assists Lift Maintenance Manager with parts inventory, planning and scheduling of maintenance.
- Maintains and promotes an organized and clutter free work space.
- May be asked to help lift maintenance manager with purchase orders of parts and supplies.
Safety
- Must adhere to and promote the safety policies and procedures relating to operating lifts and maintenance duties.
- Wears personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required by safety policies and procedures.
- Operates fire suppression equipment as required.
Safety & Wellness:
All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas. Follow up notification will be done to correct the condition or practice at the earliest possible opportunity
Work Environment:
- Moderate physical activity required by handling objects up to 30 to 50 pounds frequently and excess of 75 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to climb lift towers on a frequent and repetitive basis under extreme weather conditions.
- Utilize proper safety harness procedures when working on elevated tower platforms.
- Ability to perform maintenance tasks in small spaces, high places and awkward body posture on a regular basis.
- Fire training, basic first-aid and CPR training will be on-going as part of this job.
- Drive company vehicles in the performance of daily duties.
- Flexibility in schedule changes on short notice is required.
- Job may require working nights, weekends, holidays and overtime during peak demand times.
- Outdoor work is conducted in varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.
