Library Circulation Supervisor Fall 2023 Job at State University of New York, Cortland
/Duties
Provide face-to-face customer service to library patrons and peer supervision to Library Circulation Assistants who’s tasks may include:
Library Circulation Supervisor Tasks:
- loaning/returning books and equipment
- opening and/or closing the library
- navigating the SUNY Cortland website and myRedDragon to find information
- configuring mobile devices to the SUNY Cortland Wi-Fi network
- answering telephones
- assisting customers with Microsoft Office and other supported software applications
- answering directional questions
- shelving books
- troubleshoot WEPA print stations
- Instructing customers in use of library equipment
Library Circulation Supervisor Tasks:
- Assisting evening staff in overseeing Memorial Library and Library Circulation Assistants
- Assisting in training and evaluation of Library Circulation Assistants
- Ensuring that relevant policies are being enforced and procedures are being followed
- Handling cash transactions
- Responding to exit alarms and fire system trouble alarms
- Assisting in coordinating with University Police Department and first responders in emergency situations
- Submitting shift reports
Days/Hours Needed
Hours of coverage coincide with Memorial Library’s hours of operation, which are subject to change. Based on the current hours of operation, coverage is required for the following:
M-R 3:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
F 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sat 9:45 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Sun 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Study Days and Finals week require extended hours.

Required Qualifications
- Must be a current SUNY Cortland student
- More than 2 semesters working as a Library Circulation Assistant
- Thorough knowledge of Circulation policies and procedures
- Familiarity with Memorial Library resources
- Proficiency at basic tech troubleshooting (e.g. password resets, registering devices to wifi, adding email to mobile devices, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willing to work 2 weekend supervisor shifts as well as 2 supervisor shifts / week
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 semesters working as a Library Circulation Assistant
- Experience in peer leadership/supervision
- Experience handling cash transactions
Physical Demands
Ability to push and pull loaded book trucks and to lift 20 pounds
