Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Legal Support Clerk performs a variety of journey-level specialized clerical support duties in the justice system such as preparing and processing specialized paperwork, providing information to the public and other agencies, and responding to concerns from the public and other agencies.

We Require
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Two years of experience performing specialized clerical such as: drafting memos and correspondence, gathering data for reports, and providing customer service duties
-
Post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum experience on a year-for-year basis

Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement

Locate, order, pull, create, and organize case files

Enter and retrieve case information from various databases including Motor Vehicle Department, Justice Court database, and Superior Court database, among others

Perform statistical data collection and tracking

Prepare various correspondences and type a high volume of subpoenas

Research persons' information in state and national criminal history databases

Maintain a current TOC with Department of Public Safety

Enter data for basket submittals and in jail submittals using information provided from various police agency reports

Assist bureau Paralegals with running and printing reports in PACE and Prepare Victim Turndown letters

Assist in entering case disposition entries in MCAO internal database

Update probation violation court calendar, send out discovery requests and clemency letters
Working Conditions

Mostly office setting in high volume, fast-paced legal office environment

Requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities

May require travel to and from job related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business

Ability to lift boxes and/or pull mailcart weighing 25 – 40 pounds

Hybrid and alternative work schedules are available upon successful completion of the 6–12-month probationary period
Selection Procedure
The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.
All offers of employment made to new hires and rehires at Maricopa County are contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment thorough background investigation.
