Legal Research & Training Librarian Job at Phillips Lytle LLP
Responsibilities:
Research
· Collaborate with the library staff to provide comprehensive and sophisticated legal and non-legal research, and current awareness, for timekeepers and staff in all firm offices.
· Perform in-depth cite-checking of pleadings, articles and presentations using The Bluebook and state-specific style standards.
· Perform due diligence research on plaintiffs, experts, defendants, judges, opposing counsel, and corporate entities.
· Participate in regular monitoring of targeted news and legislative and regulatory developments.
· Implement tracking of cases and dockets using a variety of resources (e.g., Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, etc.) and coordinate document retrieval as necessary.
· Experience with legislative and regulatory history research.
Training
· Provide outreach, training, and on-demand assistance to timekeepers and staff through a variety of formats including in person one-on-one sessions, departmental meetings, web enabled training and orientation.
· Develop legal research curriculum, and implement the training plans, for incoming associates and other groups as needed.
· Provide training to timekeepers on in-depth cite-checking.
· Coordinate training with vendors.
· Participate in the orientation of new firm personnel and deliver training on our research services, materials, procedures and policies.
· Review current resources and promote content and features to practice groups, teams and individuals as appropriate.
General
· Engage with designated practice groups and client teams to market library resources and services and to identify training and outreach opportunities.
· Develop and maintain expertise in the use of a wide variety of legal, business and practice-related resources.
· Stay current with new and developing trends in law, research and technology and stay current on technological developments relating to online research and applications and services.
· Assist with the evaluation and review of new resources and subscriptions by providing research and analysis of potential vendors, vendor products and electronic research sources.
· Bill research time to client-matters as appropriate.
Requirements:
Education
· A graduate degree in library or information science or a J.D.
Experience
· Research experience in a legal environment is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
· Strong research skills and a deep understanding of research strategies.
· Experience with in-depth cite-checking using The Bluebook, as well as state-specific style standards.
· Proficiency with major legal and business research platforms, public records resources, competitive intelligence tools, and state and federal legal information sources.
· Experience with standard legal resources, such as Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, Practical Law, Pacer and other related subscription services.
· Experience with and working knowledge of the litigation process.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
· Able to work effectively with co-workers in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
· Responsive, service-oriented, and able to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities and project criteria while managing multiple projects.
· Able to work under time constraints and in a high-pressure environment.
· Able to use sound judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay: $59,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
