The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Legal Assistant - Civil in the City Attorney's Office. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year
.
Under general supervision, provides legal and administrative support to attorneys in the City Attorney’s Office; provides litigation support in civil matters; provides legal support in complex transactional and regulatory matters; and performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in law, criminal justice, or legal administration; or graduation from high school and successful completion of a course of study for legal assistants/paralegal studies with a special emphasis in State of Nevada practices and procedures from an accredited organization.
- Four (4) years of legal/law-related work experience under the guidance of an attorney.
- Must have the ability to obtain a State of Nevada Notary Public Commission within six (6) months of employment, as a condition of continued employment
- Must have skill in typing sufficient to type 45 net words per minute.
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
- Desirable: Paralegal Certification from an accredited organization.
- Desirable: Experience providing litigation-related support including e-filing procedures for Nevada lower courts, the Nevada Supreme Court and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
- Desirable: Experience providing transactional-related support including familiarity with the Clark County Assessor’s Office, Clark County Recorder’s Office and Nevada Secretary of State web services, and real property closings.

TYPING REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires candidates to type 45 words per minute. Candidates will be required to complete an online typing test to verify that they meet the minimum typing requirements listed in the job description. All candidates with complete applications will be sent an email with a link to the typing test. This test must be completed by the date/time listed in the notice/invite. Candidates who successfully complete the online typing test will be moved to minimum qualification review.
ASSESSMENT DATES:

Candidates will be required to pass the typing portion of the written examination based on the number of net words per minute (WPM) listed in the minimum qualifications. There are free practice typing tests online if you would like to gauge your speed and practice prior to the assessment date. However, you must pass the test we administer, and we will utilize the score you receive from our exam.
Written Exam (Weighted 30%) - Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and/or Thursday, January 12, 2023 (if needed)
Structured Selection Interview (Weighted 70%) - Wednesday, January 18, 2023

- Four consecutive days of leave, with pay, per occurrence, to attend funeral for immediate family member.
- 12 paid holidays per year.
- Holidays that fall on a day the employee is not scheduled to work will be banked. Employees may accumulate up to 152 hours of banked holiday hours at any given time.
- Employee credited with two (2) floating holidays at the beginning of each calendar year. If hired prior to July 1, employee will be credited with two (2) floating holidays and if hired between July 1 and October 31, employee will be credited with one (1) floating holiday.
- Four day, 9.5 hour work day, 38 hour work week.
- Four day, 10 hour work day, 40 hour work week for Police PERS positions.
