Our full-time non-exempt (hourly) Skills Development Specialist will help to support our mission and team so we can work in the most efficient and effective way. You will work 40 hours a week and must have availability to work some evenings and weekends. This position will not be a traditional five day a week position and will allow for creativity for scheduling. You will work out of our Southport/Indianapolis, office.

The primary goal of our Mobile Crisis Team is to lessen trauma, divert from emergency departments or the criminal justice system, and prevent unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations. This position will support clients and community members that are in crisis to maintain safety, access services, and connect to appropriate care. This position will partner with team members to co respond in the community, while also providing follow up via phone for check ins and assisting clients in accessing resources needed.

This role is part of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers (CCBHC) grant that A&C was awarded to expand and enhance behavioral health services in Marion and Johnson Counties. With this grant, A&C will implement more comprehensive mental, and substance use treatment by adopting CCBHC service standards-an integrated and financially sustainable model for care delivery. Target populations for CCBHC services include individuals with serious mental health or addiction, including opioid disorders; children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance; and individuals with co-occurring physical health disorders. CCBHCs provide person and family-centered services to any individual in need, regardless of their ability to pay or their place of residence.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide crisis intervention/emergency services by assessing risk, development of safety plans, reporting of any abuse or neglect, or any other emergency situations
  • Following up with clients who reached out to the afterhours crisis line to follow up and make sure they can connect clients to appropriate level of treatment.
  • Coordinate with ongoing teams to make sure that A&C crisis clients are connected to treatment and any additional needed services are identified and added as part of treatment plan.
  • Connect clients to the appropriate resources based on appropriate clinical need including services outside of Adult & Child Health.
  • Provide skills training and development of a skill training plan to clients and their families by engaging client at their skill level, proving age-appropriate interventions, using strengths based approaches to care, and medication education
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships by maintaining open and professional communication with Team Leaders, clients, other consumers/constituencies, referral sources, staff/team members
  • Complete documentation timely and accurately, maintaining ethical standards of Adult & Child

Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s in Social Work or related behavioral health field
  • Driver’s License and valid auto insurance
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must be dependable, flexible, trustworthy and able to work independently
  • Comfortable dealing with challenging situations
  • Past crisis experience involving de-escalation, risk assessments, and safety planning
