Statement of Purpose: Coordinates and oversees the activities of team members and ensures that assigned job expectations are completed while proper policy and procedure is maintained. Provides service support in the dining rooms and other venues as circumstances dictate.
Reports to: Dining Room Manager.
Compensation: This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.
Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
Promptly and warmly greets guests.- Takes and serves food and beverage orders in an efficient manner following established steps of service.
- Delivers food and beverages promptly and professionally; maintains safe food handling and sanitation standards. Follows up periodically to assist with any additional needs or requests.
- Demonstrates complete understanding of menu items and ingredients. Advises guests on appropriate combinations of food and drinks when requested; accommodates reasonable requests and notes preferences. As needed, demonstrates knowledge of specialized diets and allergens.
- Communicates directly with back-of-the-house staff to ensure that orders are delivered correctly and special requests are accommodated.
- Exhibits exceptional communications skills and demonstrates ability to get along well with others. Remains flexible and patient when communicating with guests and staff.
- Collects tickets and follows proper cash-handling procedures.
- Promotes a clean, safe and neat environment for guests and residents.
- Maintains a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality regarding personal or medical information that is shared.
- Promptly addresses complaints or issues and relays relevant information or complaints directly to supervisor.
- Ensures that the dining room is properly set up prior to and after the service period; keeps area clean and neat while meeting established sanitation standards.
- Works with staff of other departments to perform job duties during special events.
- Attends pre-meal/line-up meetings.
- Ensures tables are bussed after each course.
- Fulfills room service and to-go tickets for residents in correct order.
- Properly maintains and operates all equipment.
- Assists management with coordinating team members and service related to the dining rooms.
- Trains and mentors all team members in the correct serving techniques and proper sanitation.
- Maintains a constant presence in the dining rooms to assure proper service techniques are being practiced.
- Evaluates and implements efficient work techniques of the dining room team members.
- Offers assistance in other venues as needed.
- Complies with all state and county health codes for food handling.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to provide direction and support key initiatives.
- Ability to make independent decisions based on sound judgment and proper procedures/protocols.
- Ability to work well under pressure and balance multiple priorities and assignments to meet service timelines.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and coach staff.
- Effective communication skills.
- Use of POS system as needed.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment where continuous improvement and adaptability is expected.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous dining room experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Must have Maricopa County Food Handlers Card.
