Title: Lead Educator Department: Program
Reports to: Program Director
Date: September 2022 Status: 100%/Exempt/Benefits
Summary:
Pearlstone’s Lead Educator ignites Jewish passion through innovative programming, Living Judaism, and Jewish Outdoor Food Farm & Environmental Education (JOFEE). This position is at the heart of Pearlstone’s Program Department and reports to the Program Director. The Lead Educator is crucially involved in the planning, and execution of most Pearlstone programs. This position serves as a critical bridge builder between the Program, Action, and Retreat departments. The Lead Educator plans and staffs Jewish holiday retreats, Tiyul Adventure Camps, TEVA, Farm & Forest School, Fire Circle and rites of passage work, city school partnerships, field trips, and more.
The work week is often Sunday-Thursday, and there are many intensive immersive programmatic weeks as well (Teva, summer camp, Family Camp, immersive holiday celebrations). Comp time is provided when intensive work is undertaken.

Qualifications/Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in education, administration, Jewish Studies
2. Non-profit experience preferred, but not required
3. Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Outlook
4. Excited to learn new technologies, systems and integrate those systems seamlessly into the work to be more efficient and effective
5. Excellent relationship builder with an ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders of all ages and backgrounds including clergy, colleagues, campers, guests, and volunteers
Experience with group facilitation a plus
Excellent written and oral communication skills
6. Comfortable in front of groups, making announcements
7. Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
8. Flexibility to accept new responsibilities and direction as necessary
9. Self-motivated
10. Ability to prioritize
11. Ability to undertake multiple deadline-driven tasks

SUPERVISION
The Lead Educator does not have any formal supervision responsibilities. Deep and effective collaboration with colleagues in the program and farm department are necessary for the successful and smooth facilitation of program-related tasks.
Mental, Physical and Visual Skills:
Must be able to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with several concrete variables. Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies verbally or in writing. Must be able to do heavy work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force, performing such activities as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, walking, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Have visual requirements of mid-range vision.
Working Conditions:
This is an EXEMPT position with varied work hours. Works in a normal hotel environment. Fast work pace due to meeting deadlines. Works in an office, campus, and outdoor environment. Potential exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold conditions.
Evaluation:

- Act as Farm Liaison to integrate the farm and program teams.
- Be initial go-to person for all new curricula building, supporting other Program Department Educators in the planning of their programs and curricula
- Work with the support of the Director of Education to help shape all new and existing curricula.
- Act as lead staff for TEVA program, including planning and leading the TEVA training week; ; Pearlstone signature Holiday Retreats; Family Farm C& Gramp C& Tiyul Adventure Camps, and other programs as needed.
- Work with Program Director and retreat directors to support the creation of schedules and content for all retreats, and coordinate Kids Program staffing
- Receive and provide on-going training and professional development in Pearlstone’s JOFEE curriculum.
- Be involved in the recruitment and training of a cadre of on-call educators for Farm & Forest Circle, Fire Circle, ala-carte and other programs. Ensure smooth and strong on-boarding of new fellows as needed.
- Work with Programing Department and Guest Services staff and farmers to design, promote, coordinate, and evaluate programmatic offerings targeting retreat guests—both Jewish and non-Jewish.
- Execute programs for the retreat center as needed, including farm tours, hikes, low and high ropes facilitation and others, as needed on weekends as well as weekdays.
