Overview:
San Diego State University's HealthLINK Center for Transdisciplinary Health Disparities Research (SDSU HealthLINK Center) is a multi-college effort to support minority health and health disparities research. The mission of the SDSU HealthLINK Center (Center) is to inspire transformational and collaborative research that promotes health equity and well-being for all people and communities. The Center’s priority populations are Latinos/Hispanics, sexual and gender minorities, rural, and low-income populations. With over 60 individuals on the team and growing, the SDSU HealthLINK Center consists of multi-disciplinary faculty, administrative and technical staff, students, volunteers and members of our partner organizations. Under the direction of the Intervention/Community Engagement Coordinator, the Intervention/Community Engagement Research Assistant will gain experience and support activities in intervention methods, formative research methods, and community-engaged research. The Research Assistant will support the development of protocols for formative research and intervention-related research. The position will also contribute to priority projects in collaboration with the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, and integrity.

Responsibilities:

Intervention and Formative Research Methods, 45%

  • Participate in monthly Intervention Methods Group meetings.
  • Assist in developing a manual of procedures and training materials for using Intervention Mapping.
  • Assist in developing a manual of procedures and training materials for collecting and analyzing data from focus groups and in-depth interviews.
  • Assist in developing and implementing protocols for cataloging resources (formative research and evidence-based intervention materials) in the Intervention Methods Group shared drive.

Community Engagement, 45%

  • Participate in monthly Community Engagement Core meetings.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with Center partner organizations.
  • Assist in developing a series of white papers with the County of San Diego HHSA focused on the intersectionality of climate change and health equity within San Diego County.
  • Assist in developing a directory of SDSU researchers and a monthly health equity newsletter for the County of San Diego HHSA.


Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned, 10%

  • Contribute to the Center Renewal application.
  • Contribute to the Center annual progress report.
  • Attend trainings as needed.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge in adherence to study protocols.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and effective use of Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Google Suite, etc., to create reports, and documents; attend and participate in meetings; to maintain project tracking logs and create reports, memos, communicate and share documents.
  • Ability to comply with all Center and SDSURF policies and procedures, including participating in an orientation, completing all CITI training requirements, and reading the Overall, Community Engagement Core, and Research Infrastructure Core sections of the original U54 application and the most recent progress reports to become familiar with the Center as a whole.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures, rules, and regulations, and be familiar with the studies equipment.
  • Ability to learn and obtain study certification in all technical measurements.
  • Ability to handle a broad range of interpersonal contact.
  • Ability to maintain the quality and confidentiality of data collected.
  • Ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships with others within the project environment (e.g., coworkers, management, administrative team, and participants).
  • Ability to arrive to work on time and work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures.
  • Ability to complete detailed work accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to be well organized, meet deadlines, display attention to detail, and possess good judgment and common sense.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and cultural sensitivity when interacting with participants from a variety of socioeconomic and culturally diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, and Google Docs Suite.
  • Fluently bilingual in both English/Spanish-language reading, writing and speaking.
