POSITION: Human Resources Staffing Specialist

LOCATION: Red Cliff Tribal Administration Office

WAGE: $15.00 to $17.00/hour, 40 hours/week, plus benefits

SUPERVISOR: Human Resources Director

THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support for the department, assisting with the hiring process, scheduling new employee orientations, and training and entering of a high volume of employment records into our Human Resources database. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide a diverse range of functions in support of the Human Resource Department with the emphasis on advertising job openings across multiple channels, attending job fairs and coordinating interviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of Red Cliff community and tribal operations. Knowledge of various laws and regulations on employment. Knowledgeable of Native American Tribes and the uniqueness of the Red Cliff Community. Must have technical ability to use Microsoft applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, HSED, or GED preferred.
  • Proven work experience as a Staffing Specialist or similar role; preferred.
  • Strong computer, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality in all office matters.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to organize and maintain human resource related documentation and follow procedures.
  • Ability to operate personal computer and word processing and spreadsheet software packages.
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check.
  • Valid driver’s license and at least liability insurance; preferred.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Considerable daily contact will be made with the general public, tribal leadership, Program Directors and staff, consultant(s), and the Tribal Community.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Maintains emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
