Job Description and Responsibilities
The Human Resource Generalist aids with and facilitates the human resource processes at all business locations. This role administers and acts as liaison for employees in area of responsibility. This position resolves problems and ensures positive employee relations. The Human Resource Generalist ensures adherence with federal and state regulations and that policy and procedures are followed. This role provides administrative support to the human resource manager as needed, including record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision is responsible for the following major tasks:
Benefits
- Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits
- Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system
- Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction
- Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims
- Communicates changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions to the employees
- Maintaining benefit premiums for employees on layoff or leave of absence to company policy
- Administer COBRA
- Administer ACA reporting and auditing compliance
- Administer Tuition reimbursement program
- Review and respond to medical withholding orders with appropriate documentation.
- Review and respond to federal and state inquiries to benefit coverage
- Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices
- Maintains the emergency notification system
Recruiting
- Responsible for hourly/salary recruiting of designated positions by identifying hiring requirements, screening resumes, forwarding resumes to hiring managers and tracking feedback
- Responsible for recruiting reports and exit interviews, and disseminating information to company representatives
- Responsible for interviewing process of designated positions including completion of pre-employment testing per policy, scheduling interviews, extending offers, and contacting candidates not selected
- Responsible for on-boarding of designated positions including completion of new hire orientation including government documentation, setting up computer access, security access, completion, new hire welcome kit, working with managers to create and completion of the 10 day work plan
Time and Attendance
- Maintains payroll systems for hourly and salary employees
- Maintains hourly employee hourly rates, time worked, attendance, leave administration, holidays, address changes, Job descriptions and performance reviews
- Audits, verifies, and adjusts hourly employee worked time for payroll in automated time clock system
- Audits, verifies, and adjust temporary payroll including communicate to the vendors
- Maintains salary employee attendance, vacation, leave administration, holidays, address changes and job descriptions
- Maintains the absentee call in line
- Responsible for responding to unemployment claims
Environmental, Health, and Safety
- Conducts monthly Safety Audits for the location to identify safety, health, and environmental risk
- Responsible for tracking and closure of all open issues discovered in the safety layered process audit
- Schedules and completes training and drills to comply with emergency procedures
- Maintains the emergency response plan, responders, supplies, evacuation map, and notification system
- Maintains OSHA injury reporting and processes injury, medical, and state mandated forms involved in workers comp case management with providers and insurance representatives
- Maintains compliance to air permit and hazardous waste generator status
- Maintains environmental certification through auditing and record keeping
- Maintains health procedures related to blood borne pathogens, COVID, air monitoring, respirator medical testing, hearing conservation, and maintain all records
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- A minimum score of 20 on the Wonderlic Contemporary Cognitive Ability Test
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position typically does not require any travel.
