Major Duties
Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Health Promotion and Administration, the Health Promotion Specialist provides one-on-one health education sessions, collaborates with students, faculty, and staff from various campus departments to promote student wellness and academic success through presentations and other outreach; and creates, develops, implements, and evaluates Klotz Health Promotion initiatives. The incumbent works with individual students to increase knowledge and skills on holistic wellness topics, which includes stress management, sleep improvement, time management, healthy eating, and healthy physical activity, to increase academic success.
Serves as the subject matter expert on first-year student health and wellness and Klotz Student Health Center services, manages and delivers U100 presentations, and acts as the primary Health Promotion representative to new student orientations and campus welcome events.
Plans, implements, and evaluates innovative, theory- and evidence-informed, culturally competent, Health Promotion initiatives.
Develops and delivers presentations, workshops, trainings, and outreach events based on the principles of health promotion and harm reduction, and delivers alcohol misuse prevention training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
NOTE:
Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree` in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, or similar field. Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field highly preferred.
Equivalent to two (2) years of progressively responsible experience providing one-on-one health education sessions, which indicates possession of the knowledge and abilities listed.
Equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Public Health may be substituted for one year of health education experience.
Health and Wellness Coach Certification required. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification preferred.
Experience delivering individual health education sessions in a higher education setting and as a certified trainer providing alcohol-misuse prevention training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of: health education theories, research, and program assessment; planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs; industry standards for the delivery of health promotion programming in higher education.
Working knowledge of: the applicable industry standards and practices for health promotion such as those found in the American College Health Association’s “Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education”. Knowledge of traditional and emerging college health issues (including stress, sleep, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and sexual and reproductive health).
Ability to demonstrate: the utilization of motivational interviewing and Transtheoretical Model in individual health education sessions; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to provide effective, accurate, and dynamic presentations.
Ability to: operate standard office machines and computers; and proficiency in computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, graphic design software (e.g. Canva); attend conferences, trainings and meetings, which may require overnight travel.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4344 - $5500, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4344 - $8385 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; including some evenings and weekends. Some overnight travel.
REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
