Health Education Specialist

The Floating Hospital is seeking a bilingual Spanish-speaking Health Education Specialist, who will work at our facility located in Long Island City, Queens. The Health Education Specialist will participate as a member of a group of professionals dedicated to delivering comprehensive, holistic health education services to at-risk children, adolescents, and the community.

Main Responsibilities:

· Develop, implement, and evaluate health education programs targeted towards patients, schools, community organizations, and/or selected groups.

· Provide one-on-one health counseling to patients on health topics to promote behavior change.

· Plan, organize, and implement health education workshops and trivia for adults, adolescents, and children. Topics may include, but are not limited to: depression, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, sexual health, stress, drug and alcohol prevention, diabetes, nutrition, fitness and exercise, self-esteem, safety, asthma, hygiene. These workshops may be conducted off-site at schools, shelters, or community centers.

· Create and/or enhance existing educational materials as needed.

· Research and collect data for current and future health education programs.

· Act as a resource in health education to our patients, TFH staff, community partners, etc.

· Be knowledgeable of current issues related to Health Education through professional publications and research.

· Assume responsibility for professional development and job-related competency.

· Attend in-service trainings and meetings as required by TFH; may serve on various committees as needed.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

· Possess excellent written, oral communication

· Strong public speaking skills

Technical Competencies:

· Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office programs.

· Proficient in research.

· Ability to provide health education presentations to various groups and community organizations.

· Organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.

· Strong reporting and analytical background

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

· Bachelor of Science, Health Education, or related areas.

· Master’s degree in Health Education or related areas is desirable.

Experience:

· Substantive experience working in health education programming for people of all ages in various settings.

Language Requirement:

· Candidates must be fluent Spanish speakers to be considered for this position.

Salary Information:

· Pay range: $27.16 - $29.67 per hour.
