Summary of Responsibilities

Seattle Learning Center provides an exciting early learning environment for toddlers and preschoolers. Our focus is to encourage creativity through play and physical activity. We aim to inspire children to be life-long learners and establish a cooperative relationship between parents and staff.

We are seeking a head teacher and program coordinator for our Queen Anne school. The center is licensed for 37 children between the ages of 3 months to 6 years old. The center has a small but strong community of teachers and parents who are working together to provide the best early learning experience for the children. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about working for a small family-owned childcare center. The school owner and administrative assistant will support you in building a center that is child-centered, play-based, and committed to high quality early childhood education.

Required Qualifications

· ECE (Early Childhood Education) state certificate or equivalent attained after 2013

· Bachelor’s degree in ECE or related field

· Five years of experience as an ECE teacher

· One-year experience as an administrator in a childcare center

· Meets all requirements of WAC (Washington Administrative Code) 110-300-0100

Desired Qualifications

· Master’s degree in ECE or related field

· One year teaching experience working in a Montessori/RIE center

JOB DETAILS:

This job requires you to:

-Be the head teacher of all classrooms. You must be comfortable working with children from different age groups, specifically three months to six years old. Maintain SLC's curriculum and classroom management standards.

· Cover in each classroom to maintain required teacher to child ratios as set by DCYF and to cover teachers breaks/planning time.

-Manage staff schedule and set weekly shifts for staff. Set daily staff schedule when someone is on vacation or out sick.

-Be willing and able to do simple meal preparations and manage the kitchen and food orders.

-Perform light housekeeping duties such as keeping the school tidy, doing dishes, delegating housekeeping duties to closing staff, working with school cleaners and the building maintenance manager, keep the play yard tidy and organized.

-Be able to work a 9am to 6pm shift, Monday to Friday.

-Be able to manage time efficiently to complete administrative tasks when not working in the classrooms or kitchen.

-Be able to communicate well with parents in a positive and supportive tone.

-Have excellent written and oral communication skills. Write newsletters and respond to parent emails in a timely manner.

-Participate in the development of staff training programs and school events.

Essential Functions

70% Teaching and Substitute Teaching

· Support teachers in different classrooms for most of the day

· Create positive partnerships with families by serving as a resource and responding to questions and concerns

· Keep current on teaching and care methodologies for young children and create learning and professional growth opportunities for staff

· Develop a sustainable and efficient teaching team to implement the curriculum

· Advise the director regarding facilities requirements and assist in developing facilities plans

· Computer skills including Word, Excel, and online reporting

· Able to communicate professionally verbally and in writing

-Be on call and cover in any classroom as needed

10% Managing operations

· Assist the director in managing the operations of the Queen Anne site

· Work closely with the staff to make sure that each site is meeting licensing, Early Achievers and Seattle Learning Center standards

· Delegate appropriate duties to SLC’s work from home administrative assistants who are in charge of billing and payroll

· Ensuring that the school is operated within budget and fully enrolled

· Ensuring that the school operated within its mission statement

· Computer skills including Word, Excel, and online reporting

· Commitment to continuing education

15% Coaching and Directing Teachers

· Assist the director in identifying, recruiting, and hiring a team of qualified full-time teachers, assistant teachers and support teachers with the help of the school director

· Build a culturally diverse team that reflects the demographics of each site’s neighborhood.

· Supervise, coach, and mentor other teachers and staff

· Collaborate with the school director in new staff and all staff training

· Lead your teaching team during the new school year

· Ensure teachers needs are met

· Ensure children are safe & healthy, and receive a high-quality education

5% Kitchen Management

· Light meal prep (lunch and snacks) and dishes

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS (after the introductory period):

· $24-25 per hour (depending on your experience and education)
