Head of Investment Operations - Cigna Investment Management - Hybrid Job at The Cigna Group
Role Summary:
Cigna Investment Management (CIM) has overall responsibility for the over $30 billion of invested assets for Cigna's Insurance Portfolios and the Cigna Pension Plans. Cigna is a leading global health services and insurance provider and Fortune 100 company whose invested assets include public and private corporate bonds, commercial mortgages, private corporate mezzanine debt and equity, real estate equity, public equity and short-term investments.
This position, reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, will serve as Head of Operations for CIM and has primary responsibility for leading the CIM operations team, including business compliance, custody and banking services, middle office, and back office functions. This position has responsibility for developing and managing effective processes that support the execution of Cigna's investment strategy while enhancing operational effectiveness to meet business growth, including support for CIM’s multi-year infrastructure upgrade project designed to implement foundational upgrades necessary for long-term AUM growth: modern data management and warehousing, upgraded accounting systems, improved banking and reporting capabilities and new solutions for managing derivatives, pricing and total return. This position also works closely with business partners across CIM and Cigna, including investment, legal, finance, accounting, IT and compliance.
Major Duties:
Responsible for leading CIM Operations team, including coordination of activity across operational and business functions and staff management and development. Operations functions include:
Business compliance (including Federal / SEC Registered Investment Advisor requirements and State insurance investment regulatory requirements)
Custody (maintenance and enhancement of global banking and custody infrastructure supporting Cigna's investment strategy)
Middle office (including pricing and analytics, performance measurement, data and IT management, reporting)
Back office (including trade setup, settlement, processing and maintenance, stat deposit management, portfolio setup and maintenance, cash movement/wires, reconciliations)
Develops and maintains thorough knowledge of CIM’s investment and operational functions, structure and business practices
Optimizes operational efficiencies and functions by identifying process and organizational improvements and driving implementation through effective team leadership
Works closely with senior leadership across CIM on strategic planning activities and projects to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency and investment results
Provides support for the infrastructure update project through governance process participation and by enhancing operations processes and expanding middle office capabilities
Builds and maintains relationships with clients, service providers, outside counsel, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations to support operations activities
Qualifications:
BA/BS in business, finance, or other relevant field
MBA, CFA and/or other advanced business or investment designation desirable
Global markets and broad public and private asset class knowledge/experience
20+ years of relevant investment operations leadership and technical experience
Demonstrated ability to lead a multifunctional team
Deep technical skill set and knowledge base in areas including IT process management, custody and banking, investment regulations, operational and process improvement, performance measurement, analytics and pricing
Demonstrated strong:
Communications skills (both oral and written)
Matrix management skills
Organizational agility and interpersonal and influence skills
Problem solving and decision making skills
Flexibility, sense of urgency and time management
This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Bloomfield, CT with a hybrid in-office/work from home arrangement
