The Reader 2 assists the Admissions Committee in reading and evaluating applications for admissions to the Undergraduate program at the Haas School of Business.
Responsibilities
Uses professional judgment to review complex applications and interviews for admissions to the business major and University. Assesses academic preparedness of traditional, special-program, and international applicants. Performs course-by-course evaluations for transfer credit. Perform comprehensive evaluation of all available applicant information for our various applicant pools: Continuing Berkeley, Freshman, and Transfer undergraduate applications. Use holistic evaluation methods to make a comprehensive assessment of each applicant. Actively participate in all training and norming sessions. Support program goals for reader competence and process effectiveness by contributing to facilitated group discussions of sample applications. Consult with experienced level staff or faculty when reviewing more complex applications. Obtains and maintains knowledge of systems that are used for the reading and interview process, including Slate and Haas specic tools. Provide feedback on overall training/norming process. Meet specied weekly numerical reading targets.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn UC Berkeley, and the ability to interpret policies. Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and nancial aid programs at UC Berkeley. Ability to read and score applications online. Using extensive knowledge of college/school/department requirements and applicant pool, assesses the applicants' overall record and experience for nal admissions determination and recommendation. Must maintain awareness of own scoring patterns in relation to normed scoring patterns and must adjust scoring practices as required. Must demonstrate a high level of discretion and sensitive judgment and must be able to utilize a background of professional knowledge and experience to interpret guidelines which will apply to a large, complex, detailed array of objective and subjective information. All information is highly sensitive and condential. Superior communication, analytic, time management, decision-making and interpersonal skills. Must attend norming and training sessions, meet workload deadlines and work independently. Candidates need to be adept at setting up a home oce with access to the internet and have the ability to problem-solve a variety of issues (including both technology and procedural) independently. Candidates must have a personal computer with up-to-date security and internet browsers. Successful candidates must demonstrate a high prociency with technology and web-based applications as all applicant les are reviewed electronically via an online platform.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of secondary school policies and practices, particularly as related to curriculum, standardized testing, extracurricular activities, transcript issues, etc. Previous experience as a UC Berkeley undergraduate application reader, or an application reader for another institution or program. Knowledge of and/or sensitivity to issues related to the multiple identities' students come with and may write about in their application. Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 7-month non-exempt (temporary) position at 47.5% (19 hrs a week). This position is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits with the possibility of extension. Hourly pay is commensurate with experience up to $32.00.
