SMX is hiring a Government Travel Coordinator. This is a hybrid role with time required onsite at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL.

Utilizing the Defense Travel System (DTS), the Government Travel Coordinator will arrange and coordinate official travel for Government personnel typically involving two or more modes of transportation and will construct efficient travel itineraries and schedules in support of Program Office (PO) activities. Candidate will be responsible for planning Official Foreign travel and will have experience utilizing the Aircraft and Personnel Clearance System (APACS) and the Foreign Travel Clearance guide for OCONUS travel. The Government Travel Coordinator will assist Government personnel in completing travel forms, verify travel orders, and ensure efficiency in travel execution. Employee will be responsible for reviewing travel authorizations and vouchers for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with PO policies and procedures. Candidate will support employee inquiries and solve problems pertaining to official travel and make adjustments/changes to itineraries as required. Employee will follow up with Government travelers regarding non-compliant expenses, missed deadlines, and other anomalies and will be considered a subject matter expert on travel-related subjects for the PO.

The Travel Coordinator's eight-hour workday will occur between 0700-1800 (flexibility is required).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist personnel in completing travel forms and other business transactions pertaining to travel
  • Using the Defense Travel System (DTS), arrange travel typically involving two or more modes of transportation utilizing information on airfare carriers and modes of transportation.
  • Must be knowledgeable about booking OCONUS (overseas) travel in DTS and familiar with the Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Prepares travel authorizations to ensure costs, availability, and convenience of various types of carriers, selecting the most advantageous route and carrier.
  • Make adjustments to travel arrangements and itineraries as needed
  • Review travel authorizations and vouchers for accuracy and applicable regulations to determine entitlements and authorized methods of travel.
  • Answers questions from travelers regarding travel policies and processes.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Clearance Required: Secret
  • High School diploma or GED and 5+ years of experience
    • BS/BA may be substituted
  • 2+ years of experience utilizing DTS within the past 24 months
  • Knowledgeable of the Joint Travel Regulations
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written and oral communication skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Customer service oriented
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or in a team-based, highly collaborative environment
  • Possess high ethical standards and must demonstrate constant professionalism
  • NAC-I clearance
