OVERVIEW

The Golf Course Manager runs the day-to-day sales, marketing, financial management and customer service operations of the pro shop and golf course, as well as drives membership and retention activities. They are responsible for the efficient management of the total golf operation, including financial management and safety. They represent the golf course and the community to members, outside golfers, groups, associations, clubs and area communities.

JOB DUTIES

  • Plans, organizes, and directs all divisions of golf course management and oversees the performance of the department operations; assuring high standards and total customer satisfaction.
  • Develops annual business plans for the golf operation and oversees all fiscal areas and performance for the golf operations, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and correction.
  • Develops and maintains a variety of statistical and financial reports for presentation.
  • Oversees and directs golf marketing initiatives, including all promotional materials, newsletters, play recruitment yield, management, golf packages, and outside events, plus the promotion of new golf memberships.
  • Establishes sales goals and forecasts for all golf programs and services; generates, monitors, and analyzes reports.
  • Supervises the membership sales and directs the promotion of new member leads, interaction with prospective members, and orientation of new members.
  • Coordinates team member selection and development and ensures team members comply with appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Partners with Team Relations on team member counseling and recommendation of termination when appropriate.
  • Conducts team member performance reviews and recommends compensation adjustments.
  • Develops and oversees innovative tournament schedules and golf activity programs that service all customer segments.
  • Ensures and approves merchandising plan and purchasing process for the pro shop to offer a variety of golf equipment, clothing and supplies targeted to meet the needs and interests of the customers.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the public, businesses, special interest groups, Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent, and other leaders.
  • Attends committee, staff, and other public meetings representing the facility, and attends conferences, workshops, and tradeshows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends.
  • Oversees the development of operating procedures and training manuals for the golf operation.
  • Coordinates plans with Restaurant Manager for all food and beverage needs.
  • Enforces the rules of the golf club and arbitrates golf rules per the PGA rule book.
  • Remains up-to-date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies.
  • Oversees and communicates with golf course contractors to ensure proper maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 6 months previous merchandising and/or sales experience
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of golf course management and operation, including budgeting and financial practices
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf, golf facility operations, and tournament operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
