Description


The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. This position is with our Enterprise Technology Systems (ETS) area of the agency.

The Senior Systems Administrator performs highly advanced (senior-level) systems administration work. Work involves overseeing the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of services and systems. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment

Veterans, Reservist or Guardsman with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields of Army – 255Z – Senior Network Operations Technician; Navy – IT – Information Systems Technician; Coast Guard – ISM – Information Systems Management; Marine – 0639 – Network Chief; Air Force – 3D0X2 – Cyber Systems Operations, or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirement may meet the minimum qualifications for this position.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and direct support in systems administration for servers, systems, and services as part of an enterprise IT operations team. Coordinate and maintain the functionality of the environment, the implementation of technology solutions, the development of upgrade plans and procedures, and the installation of operating systems and other software.

  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and direct support in troubleshooting and solving complex problems related to system software and hardware incidents and problem calls, and in the processing of service requests and tasks. Collaborate with IT team members to provide and document updates and resolution for incidents, service requests and support root cause analysis.

  • Provide oversight, mentorship, and contribute to projects that cross functional agency systems, agency program areas, and external organizations. Collaborate with other IT team members and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of these projects.

  • Design, implement and provide oversight on operational monitoring tools and services that support the enterprise environment. Define, implement, measure, and review metrics that result in continuous efficiency, quality, and systems management improvements.

  • Independently initiate, develop, and lead the implementation of environment standards, standard operating procedures, and IT service management processes aligned with best practices.

  • Collaborate with team members, document, provide updates on work, and record time in the defined work management and time keeping systems. As a split-funded position, record time in accordance with defined guidance for this role.

  • Oversee and/or evaluate proposals and work products of third-party vendors to determine the quality, accuracy, and completeness. Research, assess, and provide recommendations on new IT services and solutions.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, information systems, computer engineering or a related field. Equivalent system administration experience or IT support experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree based on 1 year of work experience for every 1 year of education.
  • 10 years of professional experience working in information technology operations, support, or a related field.
  • Experience working within or leading an operations team supporting an enterprise environment spanning multiple sites.
  • Experience in the administration of enterprise applications, services, networks, and operating systems; enterprise backup and recovery procedures, system configuration management tools, operations management and system performance-monitoring tools, directories, virtualization, application delivery, and endpoint management.
  • Experience with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used in maintaining a Windows infrastructure including Windows Server and Windows Workstation operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, and Windows group policy management.
  • Experience with enterprise network administration, wireless services and core network services (DHCP, DNS)
  • Experience managing Microsoft O365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and Power Platform.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing WSUS, MDT, IIS, and Microsoft SQL Administration
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing a virtual machine infrastructure environment.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing performance monitoring platforms.
  • Experience with identity management, managing identity providers, and enabling SSO and provisioning of accounts.
  • Advanced experience designing, implementing and managing VMware technologies, including vSphere/ESX, VMware View, vCenter, and Site Recovery Manager
  • Advanced experience troubleshooting ESX issues related to storage, network, and performance issues
  • Advanced experience designing, implementing, and managing an Exchange Online email system and mail flow integrating with third-party service providers.
  • Advanced experience designing, implementing, and managing Microsoft O365 services including Teams, SharePoint Online, and Power Platform.
  • Advanced experience with shell scripting: Windows PowerShell integrated scripting environment or similar.
  • Advanced experience with enterprise network administration, wireless, and core network services including DHCP, DNS, SMTP, TCP/IP.

Physical Requirements
