The successful candidate in this Food Prep & Utility Services position will split their time between basic food preparation in the kitchen and assisting with dish room and kitchen cleaning operations. The position reports to the Department Supervisor and is a key support position for the day-to-day operations of the dining unit.
Specific Duties Include:
- Follow daily assignments set by the Supervisor in the preparation and packaging of cold food items such as salads, vegetables, sandwiches, sliced deli meats and cheeses according to standardized recipes.
- Assist occasionally with basic preparation tasks in the hot foods department (the candidate does not need to have extensive cooking experience).
- Follow health department guidelines in the safe handling of food, such as taking and recording food temperatures, date labeling, correct food storage, etc.
- Operate and clean a variety of commercial kitchen equipment, including a meat slicer, a Robocoup food processor, and a commercial dish machine.
- Assist with the setting up and cleaning up of the lunch service lines and dining area.
- Assist with daily tasks in the dish room area, which may include setting up and operating the dish machine, and cleaning all serving dishes and pots/pans.
- Assist with student lunch service, which may include serving on the line, backing up food supplies and working in the dish room area.
- Assist in other general kitchen cleaning/organizing tasks, such as sweeping and mopping, putting items back in place, taking out trash, organizing food storage spaces.
- Be prepared to work occasional special events on evenings or weekends or to help out at other kitchen units on campus, as needed.

- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change as needed.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds in weight unassisted and must possess good dexterity to grip/lift objects and to operate equipment.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Previous utilities experience in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred.
The Food Prep & Utility Services position is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, twelve-month position. Hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday to Friday.
The hourly wage rate is competitive and is commensurate with education and experience.
