The Semmes Fire Rescue Department is seeking applicants for the position of full time Firefighter/EMT. SFRD is one of the busiest Fire and EMS services in Mobile County. The Department covers 55 square miles and operates 3 BLS Engine Companies, Ladder Truck, and other specialized apparatus. With an average of over 3000 calls per year Semmes is a rapidly growing community.

Schedule
SFRD field personnel work a 24-hour shift and 48 hours off for full time employment.
Benefits
Vacation: Accrued at a rate of approximately 8.5 days per year, increases 1 day for ever 5 years worked
Sick time: Accrued at a rate of approximately 6 days per year

Retirement: RSA pension participant, Tier 2 with Tier 1 benefits
Holiday pay: 14 paid holidays, time and one half times for worked hours on a holiday plus 8 hours of holiday pay
Disaster pay: time and one half times pay for working during a disaster
Longevity pay: depends on years worked
Pay
Recruit: $32,406 annually
Firefighter/EMT Cert: $37,310 - $59,646 annually, depending on experience
Minimum Qualifications
· Be a graduate from an accredited high school or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED).
· Hold a current CPAT(Candidate Physical Ability Test)
· Hold or have the ability to obtain Fire Fighter I, II certification from Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission within 1 year of employment.
· Hold or have the ability to obtain Emergency Medical Technician-Basic license from the Alabama Department of Public Health and National Registry within 1 year of employment.
· Must be able to complete SFD physical agility test, pass drug/alcohol test, pass motor vehicle report
· Must have current state issued driver’s license
· No felony convictions
· Be physically able to perform essential functions of the position
Essential Functions
· Respond to fire, emergency medical and trauma, hazardous material, and other emergency calls as assigned.
· Use departmental equipment as appropriate to extinguish fires of all types in buildings, grass, terrain, automobiles, or other sites.
· Respond to emergency medical calls as assigned for assistance to sick or injured people and administer treatment according to the state guidelines.
· Perform daily tests and upkeep tasks to keep all equipment and apparatus in state of readiness for emergencies.
· Perform routine equipment maintenance, such as checking fluids, hoses, and air pressure, and making corrections.
· Participate in pre-planning fire tactics and emergency medical procedures to improve service and rescue.
· Participate in training classes to maintain and upgrade knowledge, skills, and certification.
· Check hydrants and test available water flows on a regular schedule and as needed; maintain records, including location and types of hydrants.
· Perform work in accordance with all safety policies and procedures
· Wash equipment and perform station maintenance,
· Perform grounds maintenance, such as cutting grass, collecting debris, trimming, and watering.
· Use computers to enter data and generate reports; and maintain necessary manual and computer records.

Pay: $12.50 - $19.98 per hour
