Spicewood FabWorks needs a Fabrication Assistant to assist around the shop. Some of the duties required include cutting materials, prepping materials to be welded, grinding, painting, shop clean-up, etc.

As a Fabrication Assistant, you will work on projects in the shop as well as travel to client locations for installations. You will be working alongside the owner and head fabricator, Brook Gehle P.E. With his 15+ years’ experience in this industry, he has an eye for beautiful beads, knows time saving techniques and anticipates a few steps ahead. He’s also a P.E. (Professional Engineer) so precision makes him happy.

If you take constructive criticism well, don’t make the same mistakes repeatedly, and provide consistent results, then this may be the job for you. You will not only earn a paycheck, rather gain experience in every aspect of the fabrication process. And since we brought up pay, this is a contract (1099) position and salary is based upon experience. Whether you are a part-time or full-time contractor is based upon you. There are opportunities for advancement if you are reliable, willing to learn, and consistently show results.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Utilize power tools and equipment including saws, grinders, drill press, paint sprayers, etc.
• Use precision measuring tools
• Layout and prep raw materials to weld as needed
• Maintain proper equipment and workspace; repair equipment as needed
• Help clean workspace on a daily basis

Requirements and Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Legal to work in the United States
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficient in basic math
• Able to work on your feet for 4+ hours at a time and lift at least 75lbs
• Able to read design specifications a plus
• Painting experience a plus or willing to learn
• Working knowledge of standard welding tools and techniques a plus
