Equipment Operator - Treasure Valley Job at Granite Excavation, Inc.
Summary:
Granite Excavation, Inc is seeking equipment operators. Granite is a family owned construction company based out of Cascade, ID, as well as operates out of the Treasure Valley and Emmett area. We specialize in earthmoving, underground utilities, paving, trucking and aggregates, and miscellaneous concrete structures in the public and private sectors. We also aim to provide turnkey GC packages in multiple private industries, as well as acting as General Contractors on complex public works projects.
Job Description:
A Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible to operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, excavators, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.
The Heavy Equipment Operator must deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service. The Heavy Equipment Operator must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner. Work is done at multiple job sites throughout the Treasure Valley and in Emmett - must have reliable transportation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- work well with all co-workers, residents and customers
- verifiable work history
- follow direction of the foremen as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite
- perform daily safety and maintenance checks
- clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
- ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
- advise the foremen of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- practice workplace safety
- maintain inventory
- ensure access to houses, water supply and waste sites
- maintain easements
- perform pre-winter, winter, spring and summer maintenance on roads
- use equipment for snow removal
- use equipment to level roads and ensure proper drainage
- operate equipment safely and efficiently by following proper loading and unloading procedures
- clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
Qualifications and Requirements:
- knowledge of truck and equipment safety
- knowledge of water, sewer and truck operation
- knowledge of how to operate front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, excavators, snow blowers and other pieces of heavy equipment
- knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
- knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques
- ability to operate single axle trucks in a safe and responsible manner
- ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- must have strong work ethics, team building skills
- ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently
- must be honest, trustworthy, and display integrity
- show dependability and reliability
- be willing to work hard
- must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
- be flexible

- not required but preferred OSHA 10/30, CPR, First Aid, Valid Driver's License, CDL

Working Conditions - physical, environmental, sensory and mental demands:
The unavoidable, externally imposed conditions under which the work must be performed and which create hardship for the incumbent including the frequency and duration of occurrence of physical demands, environmental conditions, demands on one's senses and mental demands.
The heavy equipment operator has a physically strenuous and demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects. The heavy equipment operator will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. The heavy equipment operator must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.
He/she must work outside and may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances. Must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.
The heavy equipment operator must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule of work. Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time.
