THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL



Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an Engineering Manager responsible for design and engineering standards, system design, code compliance, and reviewing the design and engineering team’s work quality and work output. This position is responsible for helping to improve the Company’s design department efficiency, evaluating existing process and procedures, and suggesting and making necessary changes to implement those improvements. This individual will lead the design and engineering of systems as represented by the Company, and be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and budget compliance of all associated jobs as prepared by the engineering department. Ideal candidates will have manufacturer training, in-house training, and on-the-job experience as it relates to design. The Engineering Manager applies engineering principles to every design to meet code and customer requirements; analyze product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be installed in customer facilities; interface with AutoCad (ACAD) drafters, designers I and II, project managers and sales, and support their various needs. The Manager will follow the Company’s corporate drawing standards and quality standards. The person in this role follows all procedures that relate to design, engineering, and drafting.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

  • Provide supervision, mentoring, training, and performance reviews of assigned design and engineering team members. Identify training needs for each assigned employee.
  • Participate in the review process with design team members. Perform spot checks to ensure design team members provide timely, accurate and budget-compliant designs.
  • Provide feedback to management in establishing goals for department personnel; updates and monitors them on a regular basis.

  • Review all designs before submitted for approval to ensure they meet the Company’s quality standards and code requirements.

  • Review and manage the project backlog to ensure design and engineering is being completed in a timely manner to meet both internal and external customer needs.

  • Ensure all Company policies and procedures are followed during daily work activities.

  • Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions. Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.

  • Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiencies and proficiencies for the design and engineering department.

  • Assist ACAD team members to achieve their goals and objectives.

  • Develop and implement ACAD design and drafting standards for the department.

  • Responsible to ensure all employees embrace our safety culture and comply with all safety initiatives.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

  • Two to five years of experience with commercial fire alarm and security systems.
  • Two to five years of experience leading design and ACAD teams in the fire alarm and security industry.
  • Technical skills, including ACAD, and an in-depth understanding of fire alarm, suppression, and security design.

  • NICET Level III, certified in Fire Alarm and/or Special Hazards.

  • Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations.

  • Proficient understanding of current NFPA 72 inspection, testing and troubleshooting requirements.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Able to travel by air and/or ground overnight, as necessary.

  • Strong social skills, specifically in the areas of service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction.

  • Skilled in complex problem solving.

  • System certifications for products represented by the Company, and for products of other manufacturers similar to those represented by the Company.
