Inside the Role
This position is part of the eMobility ePowertrain department in the high voltage (HV) PowerNety & Safety team, which has an overarching responsibility for high voltage architecture, safety, and power distribution through out the vehicle.

This is an emerging, exciting technology, and the right person will help invent the future of transportation in the industry. This engineer will be developing innovative High Voltage PowerNet architecture focused on reliability safety by collaborating with other regional and global business units.

In addition, this position will also help drive HV requirements and standards for various HV consumers, and establish simulation methods and processes for early design research and development. This is an exciting and highly collaborative role that will be inventing processes and designs that push the envelope of the industry.

Position offers a starting salary range of $110,500 - $141,500 USD

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Support companywide development and launch of zero emissions vehicles (ZEV) at Daimler Truck North America.
  • Define HV topology requirements and definition of safety requirements, including fuses, contactors, and other sub-components.
  • Calculate vehicle-level X-capacitance/Y-capacitance, energy calculations, and short-circuit currents.
  • Create high voltage (HV) system design and specification for next generation battery electric class 7 and 8 trucks.
  • Develop the safety concept for the HV System that is compliant with HW and SW.
  • Lead engineer and internal expert for HV systems at DTNA, consulting with other groups as needed on HV requirements and safety.
  • Create the functional safety concept (FSC) and Technical Safety Concept (TSC) in accordance with ISO26262.
  • Build a database of all electrical requirements so component owners can easily create component
    specifications for RFI and RFQ.
  • Lead HV decommissioning and recertification process and documentation.
  • Key coordination with internal and external resources to meeting project deliverables, including vendors, contractors, and colleagues from other countries and Daimler Trucks business units.
  • Research, develop, design, and test high & low voltage electric components, equipment, systems, networks, electronics, and standards.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant work experience or an Associates Degree with 4-6 years of relevant work experience in engineering with focus on electrical, power systems, or related engineering field is required.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty electric trucks’ high voltage system and components required.
  • Knowledge of high voltage power distribution and safety (short circuit, touch current, x-cap/y-cap, cable conductor sizing) is required.
  • Experience with high voltage power systems over 60VDC is required.
  • Experience with Functional Safety ISO26262 is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a highly collaborative environment, bringing colleagues together to accomplish a common goal is required.
  • Must be well-organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of DTNA management is required.
  • Customer orientated with a real sense for the marketplace is required.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and, oral and written communication skills is required.
  • Moderate travel as needed (5-20%) is required.
  • Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated is required.
  • Must be self-motivated to learn new areas and promote unique ideas.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change is required.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Experience on electric vehicles and high voltage DC automotive systems is preferred.
  • Experience with high voltage electric powertrain components such as batteries, inverters, power distribution, DC/DC converters, and electrified accessories is preferred.
  • Languages: English (fluent); German (Intermediate) preferred; additional language(s) appreciated.
