With an expanding portfolio of humanitarian assistance and disaster preparedness, risk mitigation and recovery programs, we are currently seeking a Disaster Response Digital Journalist who has a passion for international development and humanitarian assistance work to become a member of our growing and dynamic global team.

Location: To be based out of Puerto Rico

Job Purpose:

The Disaster Response Digital Journalist will be responsible for documenting, filming, and developing stories in various disaster zones alongside the CEO of Miyamoto International. You are passionate about storytelling and have a strong desire to make a difference in the world which will play a key role in bringing attention to the impact of earthquakes on communities and helping to raise awareness about the importance of disaster relief efforts.

Key Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Support Miyamoto International CEO and other senior leaders by executing comprehensive content creation plans and campaigns
Identify digital content and storytelling opportunities that align with Miyamoto’s goals and priorities
Produce compelling video, audio, photography, graphics, visualizations, and written content for the CEO’s social media accounts, and to complement news stories, and press releases
Manage pre-production, production, and post-production on a variety of multimedia projects aimed for social media, in collaboration with the Miyamoto’s digital strategist
Identified and assessed speaking opportunities for senior leaders
Researched, outlined, and drafted main-stage keynotes/speeches/fireside chats, professional articles, power point presentations and emails
Stay up to date on developments related to earthquakes and disaster relief efforts, including Miyamoto International-specific topics, i.e.: structural engineering, climate resilience, International Development, corporate responsibility, and humanitarian assistance and then incorporating this knowledge into your reporting and other presentations
Work collaboratively with our marketing and communications teams to ensure that the stories you develop are shared widely and reach a broad audience
Drove planning content and production of quarterly all-employee town hall meetings and other events in conjunction with teams across global Miyamoto offices
During non-disaster periods, work with the communications team to review and develop stories from past disaster content, repurposing footage and stories into new content that highlights Miyamoto’s expertise in disaster response and recovery

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in journalism, with experience covering disaster-related topics preferred
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that engage audiences
Experience with video production and editing, and familiarity with software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, or Avid
Willingness to regularly travel to remote disaster regions and work in challenging and often unpredictable conditions
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the year
Knowledge of earthquake engineering
