Director (Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition) Job at Greater Falls Connections
The Coalition Director will support the work of a diverse group of community members and organizations working together to create change in our community related to generational trauma and substance use disorder. Position requires a high degree of collaboration, flexibility, and humility while working within the Windham Northeast catchment area and the Bellows Falls/Springfield region.
Ideal candidates will have a commitment to grass-roots community engagement, health equity, and trauma-informed approaches. We are willing to support and train the right candidate who has a passion for breaking the cycle of addiction, supporting all youth and families, and leading people.

This is a 40-hour per week position eligible for generous benefits including paid time-off, health and dental insurance, and 403(b) retirement benefits. $24-$27 per hour depending on experience ($49,500-$56,000 per year).

Responsibilities:
Administration & Management (50% of effort)
- Cultivate a strengths-based and trauma-informed organizational culture through policies and practices that promote equity, transparency and collaboration.
- Lead, develop, and supervise an experienced team of staff, including the Community Engagement Coordinator and Communications Coordinator.
- Develop annual organizational budget and project plans, primarily through the grant writing process.
- Manage financial resources and all aspects of grant compliance within guidelines set forth by granting agencies and GFC’s fiscal agent.
- Enhance and oversee program monitoring and evaluation.
- Lead grant writing processes in collaboration with staff and community partners.
- Support the GFC Advisory Board and Board development.
- With staff and Advisory Board support, ensure implementation of community input and planning processes using the Strategic Prevention Framework.
- Maintain key community partnerships.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with our fiscal agent, Health Care & Rehabilitation Services of Southern Vermont, Inc (HCRS).
Project Implementation (50% of effort)
- Lead or delegate grant-related substance use prevention planning teams and projects that include staff, community members, and local, regional, and statewide organizations.
- Advise municipal leaders, legislators and other agencies on evidence-based prevention policies, health equity, and best practices.
- Work with staff and community partners to develop leadership opportunities—volunteer, internships, Board leadership—with and for youth and others most impacted by generational trauma and substance use disorder (SUD).
- Support outreach and communications activities in the community (such as surveys and interviews, planning and attendance at events, social media, and tabling).
Key Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (3-5 years) in substance misuse prevention, public health, social work, education, youth development, community organizing, and/or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience cultivating and supporting individuals and communities who have experienced historical marginalization or stigma.
- Commitment to health equity, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches.
- Capacity with nonprofit or organizational budgeting and financial management.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to a general audience.
- Strong communication skills including written, interpersonal and public speaking.
- Ability to engage with and relate to diverse populations within a small, rural community.
- Previous grant writing experience is strongly preferred.
- Able to work flexible hours. Some weekend, night and occasional overnight travel required.
Preferred knowledge and experience (willing to train):
- Previous experience as a supervisor.
- Team-oriented project management and meeting facilitation.
- Program evaluation using Results-Based Accountability (RBA) or other tools.
- Experience planning and implementing programs using the Strategic Prevention Framework or similar model.
- Understanding of and experience working with or serving on a governing body such as an Advisory Board or Board of Directors.
- Knowledge of public health policy, healthy community design principles, or policy advocacy.
- Experience with fundraising and building a donor base.
- Local experience in social services and/or a connection to the greater Bellows Falls area.
Reports to: Greater Falls Connections Advisory Board and HCRS Chief Financial Officer.
