Job Description
The Director - Public Affairs and Communications works to assure a positive image for Coca-Cola UNITED and protect the company’s social license to operate through government and stakeholder relations, issues management, the development of internal and external communications, and community engagement. Position will support corporate and regional/local public affairs and communications initiatives, as well as have responsibility for monitoring and engaging on governmental, legislative, and policy issues within a specific geographic territory. Position will support Coca-Cola UNITED's West Region. (Louisiana/Mississippi)
What your day will look like:
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the UNITED policies and applicable laws
- Builds positive associate morale
- Analyze business results and develop programs to drive sales and revenue growth
- Directs and manages project implementation from beginning to end
- Interview, hire, and train associates (if applicable)
- Plan, assign, and direct work (if applicable)
- Appraise performance (if applicable)
- Address complaints and resolve problems
- Monitor legislative and regulatory issues, along with broader economic conditions, within Louisiana and Mississippi that could impact our industry, with specific focus on environmental/sustainability, health and taxation topics
- Work closely with State Associations and coordinate with local UNITED facilities on policy and emerging issues
- Develop and execute public affairs strategies for governmental and community stakeholders throughout UNITED’s footprint
- Support the management of UNITED’s Political Action Committee including budget and strategy for federal, state and local political contributions
- Develop and execute internal and external communications and strategies for a variety of stakeholders in the Region on our business, brands and issues impacting our industry
- Support corporate and regional/local community initiatives
- Liaison with the Coca-Cola Company and American Beverage Association
- Represent UNITED with key stakeholders and government/community events
- Serves as designate for the Vice President- Public Affairs and Communications
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum age 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license required and obligation to maintain compliance with UNITED fleet policy
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position and compliance with UNITED safety policies
- Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the job
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance within Company guidelines
- Ability to maintain safety and security of Company assets
- Ability to utilize all Company provided resources and technology
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Build and maintain relationships across all levels of the business
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, organizational and people management skills
- Proven ability to coach and manage needs and concerns of multiple associates
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or 10 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred
- Experience in Corporate Communications, Government Relations, Issues Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Community Relations, Media Relations, Speech writing, Internal and Leadership Communications preferred
- Strategic thinking and planning experience
- Knowledge of public policy required
- Proven writing skills for a variety of audiences
- Experienced in interview and media training
- Project management experience preferred
- Knowledge of beverage industry and sustainability issues preferred
- Stakeholder relationships in respective states supported required
- Knowledge of the Coca-Cola System preferred
