The Company
Insteel Industries is the nation's largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications. From our ten manufacturing plants across the U.S., we engineer, manufacture and market pre-stressed strand and welded wire reinforcement, including concrete pipe reinforcement, Engineered Structural Mesh (ESM) and standard welded wire reinforcement.
Our products are primarily sold to manufacturers of concrete products that are used in nonresidential construction and infrastructure projects such as tunnels, roads, bridges, stadiums, arenas, and more. We are a growing company with a strong history and positive leadership culture.

This position is based in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Mount Airy is a vibrant town offering great quality of living with clean air, minimal traffic, excellent schools, and abundant recreational activities with our location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mount Airy is near the Triad cities of Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point.
Position Snapshot
The Director of Human Resources Operations leads the Human Resources processes and HR continuous improvement initiatives for the Home Office, ten manufacturing plant locations, Insteel Engineered Products (IEP), and District Sales Managers. To be successful in this role you will:
- Lead a proactive "organizational readiness" talent strategy and implement plans to ensure the right talent is available to capitalize on business opportunities and growth.
- Monitor retention metrics and analyze findings to develop plans of action and proactive initiatives to retain and grow the talent throughout the organization.
- Develop and continually improve recruiting, on-boarding, mentoring, and integration processes to allow Insteel to acquire talent in a timely manner and shorten the "learning curve" to allow new hires and recently promoted employees to contribute with maximum effectiveness.
- Develop and administer company-wide processes to foster the company's status as "Employer of Choice" in local recruiting areas.
- Areas of focus will include talent growth through proper succession planning and bench strength development programs for key contributor and leadership positions; in-house training and development programs to prepare employees to perform at a high level; and general business development programs to improve employee knowledge and understanding of the business of the company and the concrete reinforcement industry.
- Serve as a mentor to plant HR team members and work with Plant General Managers to establish employee training programs and performance objectives.
Qualifications to be considered for the role:
- Must have a minimum of seven years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results by working collaboratively with others in a multi-site workplace.
- Experience with HRMS/HRIS/ERP is essential.
- The successful candidate will have worked in an organization where collaborative, active, and hands on involvement were essential to success. The person must be a fit in an environment that offers continuous improvement latitude, high performance expectations, and keeping others informed of key issues.
- Strong employee involvement leadership style, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to building on the success of the organization are required characteristics
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field of study. A Masters/MBA is a plus.
