General Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of Thrive’s fundraising and public relations including, the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. The Director works closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors in all development and fund raising endeavors


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the Development budget
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  • Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
  • Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
  • Coordinate fundraising special events.
  • Oversee prospect research.
  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Thrive with the community.
  • Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
  • Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising and marketing staff.
  • Supervise the Grant Writer and oversee the process
  • Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities.
  • Maintain gift recognition programs.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports and publications as required.
  • Coordinate and produce organizational newsletter for the community.
  • Represent Thrive on HHP Communications Team
  • Member of the Citizens Advisory Group

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must attend all agency/department required training and meetings within the prescribed time frame.
  • Attends all Safety Training programs and be able to describe his/her responsibilities related to the general safety, department safety, and specific job-related hazards and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all clients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Present a neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department and agency polices & procedures.
  • Must work the hours and/or shift assigned, and begin and end on time.
  • Carry and enliven a positive Thrive image consistent with the Thrive’s Guiding Principles and professional code of ethics.
  • Function as a member of a team, i.e. be a "Team Player",


Education, Experience, Competencies:

Bachelor’s Degree required

3-4 years related experience

Strong interpersonal and writing skills

Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.

Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships

Certifications, Licenses Requirements:

Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job.
