Director of Analytics and Research Job at Virginia Dept of Education
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Office of Research is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Director of Analytics and Research to provide support and expert advice to the Department staff and executive leadership. The Director conducts objective analyses and leads scientifically-based research in support of the operations and strategic goals of the Department of Education, Board of Education, Governor, and General Assembly.
The Director partners with and oversees research contracts resulting from institutes of higher education or research centers conducting analyses with Department of Education data. Provides recommendations for the implementation of major statewide policy, programmatic, budgetary, regulatory, planning, performance and fiscal initiatives based on research and best practice. Leads improvement initiatives through evaluation of programs, services, policies, operations, and business processes within large-scale initiatives in support of the Department of Education’s strategic objectives.
Pursuant to Sections 2.2-3114 and 2.2.3115 of the Code of Virginia , this position has been designated to file a Statement of Economics Interested through the appropriate online system and when required thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods used to identify effective business operations and the impact of educational policies.
- High-level research-oriented experience with designing, developing and deploying evidence-based analytic models that inform policy decisions and the development of operational strategic plans.
- Demonstrated ability to generate easy-to-understand reports and statistically-sound analysis to support decision makers in projects with high visibility.
- Proficient in database collection and management, programming, and the development of sophisticated data collection tools; skills in the use of office software package including spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills in writing, conversation, and formal presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of professional, support and clerical staff and with key partners outside of the Department of Education.
- Must have demonstrated experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university.
