ABOUT THE POSITION
:
This position is responsible for creating and developing new products and processes, focusing on the concept and feasibility phases of the development process. The Development Engineer 2 is responsible for supporting projects relating to new/improved manufacturing processes, new/improved hardware designs, and overall new product development. Will work with a multi-disciplined team of engineers and support staff and will have interaction with Product Management, machine shop, 3rd party vendors.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Originates ideas for processes, production equipment, component systems, textile specification and tooling.
- Transforms ideas generated through individual inspiration, focus groups, customer meetings and industry/market research into diversified products produced by the business organization.
- Professionally engineers, designs and builds prototype and production machinery and processes.
- Prepares preliminary drawings of concepts and builds prototypes while utilizing knowledge in areas of extrusions, injection molding, roll forming and metal stamping. Arranges for and assist in cycle testing of the prototype.
- Knowledgeable of the company-specific, ASTM and AATCC testing procedures and able to direct all efforts involving the testing and qualification of new textiles and textile suppliers.
- Prepares cost analysis, capital budgeting and approval documentation on all proposed developments. Formally oversees and presents planning, costing and time line information for new projects to management.
- Researches and reviews recent technological advances and offerings through perusal of trade and industry publications, attendance at trade shows, and contact with suppliers.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES :
- Knowledge of computer use and software such as, Word, Excel, CAD, wiring software and PLC’s.
- Solid knowledge of project management from a conceptual design phase to implementation.
- Solid knowledge of machinery design and process improvement methodology
- Knowledge of prototyping new processes/equipment used in the converting of material into window coverings.
- Expert knowledge of developing component/hardware systems from conceptual design phase to prototyping.
- Expert knowledge of developing and specifying textiles and textile chemistry.
- Skill in safely operating shop and mill equipment such as, lathes, welders and punch presses.
- Ability to trouble shoot equipment malfunctions to repair production equipment.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and schematics.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Similar
5+ years of testing/development experience
- Experience with process, hardware, electro-mechanical design
- Knowledge of web-handling practices
- Ability to run basic machine tools
- Proficient in CAD (preferably Solidworks)
- Experience in Manufacturing Process Equipment Design

Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual base Salary range: $87,000 - $95,000
- Bonus target range: 20%
