Job Type Description
Serve as a Day-to-Day Short-Term Restricted Substitute Teacher in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Perform all duties, as assigned, by the School Principal.

A Restricted Substitute is not permitted to cover any long term placement in the county exceeding 10 consecutive days in any given classroom or be authorized to participate in atheltic coaching without obtaining a seperate coaching authorization through the WVDE.

Salary Schedule
In accordance to Berkeley County Schools Restricted Substitute Teacher Pay Scale I.

PLEASE NOTE that only teachers holding a full professional teaching certification or substitute permit issued before December 11, 2017, are eligible for advanced degrees/salary levels in the substitute pay scales (BA+,MA, MA+, PHD) as issued by the WVDE. After December 11, 2017, those individuals issued and working under a substitute permit are only eligible for the minimum degree level required under WV Board of Education Policy 5202 for issuance of the permit or authorization regardless of their educational background. Due to a WVDE interpretation of policy, any individual holding a substitute permit may no longer apply for upgrade of advanced salary degree levels.

Additional Job Information
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must also hold at least a 2 year conferred Associates Degree from an accredited institution (min. GPA 2.0) or meet the minimum equivalency hours . Equivalency in lieu of a conferred associate degree should include a minimum of 60 semester credit hours or 90 quarter of completed course work with a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Coursework should provide evidence of competencies in core areas such as English, reading, writing, and mathematics. Courses may include but are not limited to communications, social sciences, humanities and fine arts, analytical and inferential reasoning, and computational skills. These hours must be reflected on an official transcript of an accredited institution. Also, the applicant must HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED a county approved substitute training program within 1 calendar year OR hold a valid WV Restricted Substitute Permit issued by the WVDE.

IF SELECTED to proceed, applicants will be contacted via email and invited to a pre-screening interview. After the interviews are completed, successful applicants will be notified and invited to a workshop/orientation to complete the necessary employment paperwork. Applicants will also be advised of required documentation, screenings, and fees. Applicants are responsible for all fees associated with the certification, employment, and screening process.
