This is an 8 hour per day, 260 days per year Custodian II, Head Elementary position with benefits at Mukilteo Elementary School.


Hours for this position are 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Elementary Day Custodian is responsible for responding to general requests and emergencies; performing a variety of cleaning services, minor repairs, general maintenance needs, and related duties for the purpose of creating and maintaining a safe, clean and orderly working environment for students, staff, parents and the general public who use the school facilities.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Respond to general requests, trouble calls, and attending to emergencies for the purpose of maintaining a safe and orderly work and learning environment.
  • Perform general cleaning services for the purpose of meeting health standards and codes and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. Responsibilities and duties include: cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, restroom fixtures, and shower rooms; emptying waste baskets and other trash containers; cleaning white boards, furniture, walls, baseboards, wall/ceiling fixtures; sweep, mop, strip and refinish floors; vacuum, shampoo and spot clean carpets; wash windows and mirrors.
  • Check the buildings daily for the purpose of securing the facilities and identifying repair needs, vandalism, making sure the facilities are secure, and for any other problems or needs; maintain building security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants. Report damage, repair needs, and concerns to the building principal and custodial supervisor.
  • Maintain the exterior areas of school by removing debris, picking up and disposing of litter on campus grounds, remove snow and ice from walks and driveways, and other tasks as needed for the purpose of maintaining campus grounds.
  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs for facilities including replacement of light bulbs and ballasts; installation of fixtures and accessories; load, unload, and transport equipment and materials as needed.
  • Set up and remove furniture/equipment for breakfast/lunch, events, and for any other building usage needs.
  • Maintain an inventory of custodial supplies for the purpose of working efficiently and responding to customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate daily both verbally and in writing such as electronically by email in response to requests for custodial service needs, with supervisors, and other custodial staff for the purpose of meeting building needs, use the Kronos timekeeping system to log work hours, and operate the Security System to arm/disarm school facilities.
  • Coordinate facility use in building, report billing and overtime as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all building custodians, including inspecting work responsibilities for quality and quantity of work.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all work assignments for the purpose of maintaining trust and a secure environment.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned


JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of equipment to include but not limited to: broom, mop, squeegee, hand power tools, auto scrubber, buffer, pressure washer, vacuum, carpet extractor, push mower, weed eater, gas/electric blower, etc.
  • Ability to read, write, perform basic math problems, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions including service orders, emails, labels on chemicals and supplies, etc.
  • Physical ability to perform manual work associated with custodial duties including lifting 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds to empty garbage, lift furniture, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to operate basic computer systems including Microsoft programs, Kronos, Sonitrol, etc. to meet perform general tasks and meet daily administrative needs.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and to be flexible in meeting deadlines.

Education:

  • Any combination equivalent to completion of high school.


Experience:

  • Two (2) years experience or training in custodial or related fields.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Previous experience with custodial and/or maintenance of a school facility preferred.
