THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania State Archives is looking for a hardworking, skilled, and energetic person to provide custodial services at the Pennsylvania State Archives building. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Custodial Worker 1 will perform a variety of sanitation tasks to maintain the cleanliness and neatness of the building, its furnishings, furniture, parking lots, sidewalks, and grounds. The Custodial Worker sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, waxes, and buffs floors; cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture and fixtures; washes and cleans windows, walls, and doors; cleans toilets, sinks, and mirrors in restrooms and replaces restroom supplies.

You will utilize tools and equipment of the custodial trade in the performance of cleaning tasks; gather and dispose of waste products, recyclable materials, infectious waste, and hazardous materials according to safe material handling guidelines; move furniture and equipment when necessary to perform custodial tasks; secure and maintain cleaning equipment; request, pick up, and store related supplies; may assist to move furniture and equipment for room setup for events.

During appropriate seasons, you will shovel snow, sweep and clean walks, and assist in keeping immediate outside premises and building entrances in an orderly condition. You will report needed repairs to supervisor; document work performed; and perform related work as required. You must treat all Archives visitors and co-workers with respect and professionalism.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Permanent part-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
    • Occasional Saturdays and evenings.
    • Schedule is subject to change.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • No minimum experience and training required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Minimum of 6-months custodial experience in a public facility or commercial setting.
  • Minimum of 6-months of experience with safe handling and usage of commercial grade cleaning chemicals and commercial cleaning equipment.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
  • Experience in commercial janitorial work.
  • Experience in building and/or grounds maintenance work.
  • Ability to lift and move objects or equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Possession of a Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Computer operating experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
