Valley Creek Crisis Stabilization is a 10 bed, voluntary, sub acute program providing a multi-disciplinary approach to medication stabilization, recovery oriented group and individual counseling and aftercare planning to divert from inpatient. The Crisis specialist works as part of a team to support the individuals in the Crisis Stabilization Unit.
A typical day of a Crisis Counselor consists of having a caseload of no more than 6 individuals who come to us to assist in managing their mental health symptoms as well as potentially needing our help in identifying community resources for their aftercare. As a Crisis Counselor you will lead groups, hold individual sessions, and be a part of a collaborative treatment team. Our clients stay is between 2 days to 2 weeks. So the work is fast paced and rewarding.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
It is the responsibility of the Crisis Counselor in the Crisis Stabilization Unit to conduct crisis intervention and stabilization services in a sub-acute residential treatment setting, including assessments, treatment planning, aftercare planning, case management, as well as individual and group therapy.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION(S):
The above Competencies are met and measured through the following job functions:
- Provide quality services based on established best practice principles of
- Conduct appropriate aftercare follow-up
- Maintain quality documentation of clinical service
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation, including but not limited to progress notes, treatment plans, risk assessments, safety plans and discharge
- Provide all supporting documentation required for insurance authorization in a timely
- Participate in both internal and external multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program residents, their families, payers, behavioral health providers, including case management and ACT Teams, MCO care managers, and other local county and community partners.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local police, EMS, and emergency department staff.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience and/or Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree with Major course work in Social Sciences or a related field
Or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- 3 Years of Mental Health Direct Care Experience
Required Clearances:
- Pennsylvania Act 33 clearance
- Pennsylvania Act 34 clearance
- FBI Clearance
- Verification that employee is not on any Medicaid/Medicare Exclusion list
NOTE: At the discretion of the Personnel Officer, additional related experience and/or education may be substituted in lieu of the requirements specified under Education and Experience.
