POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the prescribed easements in which all Water and Wastewater Utility infrastructure exists. The work involves operating heavy machinery to carry out tasks without constant supervision and providing functional supervision over senior utility service worker as well as utility service workers. The purpose of the job is to maintain the water and sewer easement system. Effective performance in the job facilitates the accurate and timely maintenance to facilitate access to the Water Utility Distribution and Conveyance systems.
The incumbent in the position performs the actual labor involved in bush hogging, mowing, trimming, cutting, and maintaining easement systems in the County. This position reports to a Supervisor or a Foreman.
Work is performed outdoors occasionally in inclement weather where the incumbent is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, and hazardous machinery.
The work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. The incumbent must occasionally lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds and must also be able to distinguish varying shades of color.
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. No prior experience required to perform the basic tasks of the position.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Cass A, and a Level 1A Soil and Erosion card.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Maintains easement systems including installing gates and fences, removal of obstructions from drainage culverts and ditches. Mowing, cutting, trimming of trees and brush.
Communicates with property owners to gain access to easements. Able to distinguish between brush and ornamental plantings.
Replace or repair manhole covers and sewer cleanouts.
Performs maintenance on equipment including changing blades, tires, oil, filters, etc.
Repairs and maintains pipes crossing ditches.
Drives and performs general maintenance on trucks used in hauling equipment and personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOW LEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of county policies and procedures pertaining personnel.
Knowledge of achieving grade, drainage and proper compaction.
Knowledge of construction principles.
Skill in operating heavy equipment such as skid steer, front-end loader, mini excavator, Agricultural tractor and backhoe.
Skill in using equipment such as a wood chipper, chainsaw, weed eater, limb saw, auger, four wheeler and ATV.
Skill in dealing with the public.
DESIRABLE TR AINING AND EX PERIENCE
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. No prior experience required to perform the basic tasks of the position. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the class of vehicles or equipment operated.
