We are looking for a Child Protective Services (CPS) / Child and Family Welfare Services (CFWS) Supervisor and a Child Protective Services(CPS)/Family Assessment Response (FAR) Supervisor to join our dynamic team and help us work together toward the common goal of eliminating child and youth outcome disparities based on race and ethnicity. The Opportunity:
As a leader in our Puyallup Office, you will use your strong assessment and engagement skills to supervise CPS/CFWS/FAR Specialists. This may include, Family Reconciliation Services (FRS) and Family Voluntary Services (FVS) coverage as needed within the section. You will utilize cultural competency to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with clients, subordinate staff, and other individuals across cultures, focusing on understanding and respecting the strengths of the clients including their heritage, cultural beliefs and values, communication, and learning styles. As a first-line supervisor, you will provide advanced level, specialized case management to Social Service Specialists in high profile or complex cases involving children. This highly complex professional work in the Field Operations Division has direct and indirect responsibility for protecting children and strengthening families so they flourish. Some of what you will get to do:
  • Supervise a unit of CPS/CFWS and FAR Social Service Specialists and assign, prioritize and review work assignments.
  • Coordinate with other supervisors to ensure appropriate supervisory coverage for the office.
  • Participate in supervisory, administrative, and individual meetings and conferences.
  • Perform quality assurance on staff documentation, assessments, reports, case management, and payment initiation.
  • Review and respond to data reports/requests from management and the quality assurance team regarding practice and specific cases.
  • Ensure that social service specialists document all case activities and information gathered within the case file and FAMLINK electronic record in a timely manner.
  • Set expectations for the performance of line staff.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and feedback as necessary.
  • Prepare written performance evaluations for staff utilizing the current Performance Evaluation system.
  • Consult with administrators and human resources regarding corrective or disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Train new and existing staff in gathering accurate and complete information, organizing information, and case decision making.
  • Assist staff to understand their professional responsibility and to carry out agency policy and comply with the laws which govern the Department.
  • Keep staff informed of policies, rules, and regulations affecting their jobs and the clients they serve.
  • Provide consultation and oversight to ensure accurate application of child safety framework.
  • Review the level of risk of alleged child abuse and/or neglect and ensure that agency intervention match level of assessed risk to children.
  • Implement and interpret policy and procedure at the case level.
  • Ensure all duties are performed with adherence to law and policy.

Required Qualifications:
Professionals who have at least two years of paid social service experience assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services (strengthening and preserving family units).
AND
One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4.
OR
Two years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3.
OR
Four years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2.
OR
A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law/justice, or an allied field and one year of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 3.
OR
A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law/justice, or an allied field, and five years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.

NOTE: A two-year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum may be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.

Degrees must be obtained from an accredited institution.

  • Current knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and policies on the delivery of child protective and child welfare services within Washington State.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, peers, clients, community, colleagues, and the public.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, management, colleagues, and staff.
  • Ability to use data and case management and data tracking software to assist in problem identification and problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work.
  • Ability to teach and train staff, including the ability to identify strengths in others and motivate staff.
