OVERVIEW:
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing Urban One’s corporate social media presence, research ways to expand our brand, and serves as a liaison to media outlets. The Communications Coordinator must have excellent communication and organization skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative
  • Routinely check departmental phone and email messages and distribute for response
  • Assisting with other general tasks that support the VP Corporate Communications, Chief Administrative Officer, and other corporate executives, as necessary, to include but not limited to maintaining supplies, managing expenses, etc.
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes or failures of communications campaigns and strategies
Operations
  • Assisting with various communications, public relations, and stakeholder engagement projects, including drafting posts for social media outlets, PR blogs, etc.
  • Managing various general internal inboxes, building, and updating contact lists, creating comprehensive media coverage and event summary reports, and growing the Company’s social media presence across platforms
  • Assisting with communications with participants and partners of various community initiatives
  • Providing on-site event assistance, occasionally outside of business hours, as needed
  • Design flyers, corporate employee communications and other collateral materials as necessary Produce high-quality visual media for website and multiple social media accounts that demonstrate technical sophistication and an ability to convey organizational or programmatic messages succinctly and clearly
  • Design, produce, and manage Urban One corporate content, including email templates, social media, and promotional artwork
  • Develop social media strategy and content across social platforms
  • Assist with proactively maintaining website content to ensure information is up-to-date
  • Streamline multimedia through WordPress and digital mediums
  • Assist with research, writing, copy editing, and development of content like blogs, press releases, talking points, and campaign reports

  • Provide proof of vaccination upon request
  • Must have content layout expertise, an eye for design, and an ability to translate core business concepts into compelling visuals
  • Ensuring consistency in designs and content across Urban One’s digital platforms
  • Careful attention to detail with exceptional and consistent follow-through
  • Collaborate in a team environment, discern priorities, meet deadlines, anticipate project needs and take initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work on assignments from a variety of staff

  • Dynamic initiative-taker with strong decision-making skills. Excellent communication and people skills, including writing, proof reading and speaking
  • Willingness to work at events outside of work hours or to work extended hours when required; assist with managing on-site production and cleanup for events, as necessary
  • Expertise with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, WordPress, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other design programs capable of creating visually compelling presentation

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1-3 years related experience in public relations, stakeholder engagement and/or social media environment. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred
