POSITION SUMMARY
South LA All In (SLAAI) is a seven-year initiative to address longstanding racial and socioeconomic inequities in South Los Angeles – with a focus on underserved areas east of the 110-freeway. South LA All In will strengthen the community’s economic recovery from COVID-19 while positioning residents and businesses to benefit economically from major events and development in Los Angeles leading to the 2028 Olympics.
Under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in creating a meaningful and intentional community engagement strategy to support CRCD’s comprehensive approach to community development. The coordinator will lead the coordination and facilitation of a wide range of community engagement and capacity building initiative throughout the South Los Angeles community, including collaborative meetings, community surveys, listening sessions, focus groups, resource fairs, neighborhood meetings, symposiums, conferences, and capacity building workshops. The coordinator will provide support and direction a team of 4-6
AmeriCorps VISTA Community Engagement Specialists Vistas and 8 Parent Ambassadors to support the organization’s community engagement efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Outreach, partner & collaborate with key strategic community organizations, stakeholders, local groups, and the faith-based community in South Los Angeles.
- Coordinate the implementation of a Community Advisory Board.
- Coordinate Regional Collaborative meetings across various sectors with CBO partners, government agencies, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate & facilitate workshops, events, focus groups, and symposiums.
- Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive, community resource database.
- Organize, attend, and present at relevant city, county, and government agencies, community, and neighborhood group meetings.
- Attend key meetings to inform strategy and brief CRCD Leadership on matters of public interest and concern, as needed.
- Provide support to 4-6 Community Engagement Specialist AmeriCorps VISTAs and 8 Parent Ambassadors.
- Support recruitment & enrollment of AmeriCorps VISTAs & Youth Interns
- Support facilitation of weekly trainings to AmeriCorps VISTAs
- Establish contact list of collaborators, partners, and community leaders in South Los Angeles.
- Assist with the preparation of various reports, data, and statistical information.
- Coordinate with Marketing & Communications team to coordinate community events.
- Uphold CRCD’s Mission Statement and 5 Year Strategic Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years relevant experience.
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills.
- Comfortability working in South LA, engaging with a diverse range of community members, organizations, public officials, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and familiarity of South Los Angeles.
- Reliable, flexible team player who works well with minimal supervision, who has a good work ethic, and an ability to set and maintain personal boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet deadlines.
- Access to reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and car insurance as required by law.
- Independent self-starter with strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in facilitating group workshops.
- Experience in planning, organizing, coordinating events.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- On occasion walk or drive to different local sites throughout the day.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Combination of field and office environment.
- May necessitate working in busy and loud environments.
- May be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor.
- Work regularly in a community that is exposed to gang activity, substance use, homelessness, and high unemployment rates.
- This is not a work-from-home position.
