Bismarck Global Neighbors is seeking a co-executive director who is excited to join our compassionate team of people supporting New Americans and English language learners in central North Dakota. Global Neighbors serves New American clients in multiple ways: case management, advocacy, community events, community collaboration. Summary
This position is a progressive way to approach leadership, with the responsibilities of leading Global Neighbors split between two equal peers. An ideal candidate will be willing to navigate this new process with courage, humility, and flexibility.
The co-executive director will ideally have experience in management, leadership, project management or program directing, community work or advocacy, and working as part of a team. They'll be people savvy, decisive, responsible, and fair. He or she will have a high IQ & EQ, enjoy working independently and collaboratively, be focused and able to juggle multiple priorities. The ideal candidate will also be able to supervise, coach, and support staff well in executive their on-the-ground duties with families and clients.
Because we work with clients from many different language and ethnic groups, an ideal candidate will be comfortable working across cultural differences, with interpreters, across language gaps, and potentially in-home or off-site with clients. He or she will treat clients, volunteers, community members, donors, and colleagues with respect, compassion, curiosity, and patience.
Responsibilities
This role works independently with scheduled quarterly supervision with the Board of Directors Executive Team, and works collaboratively with the Co-Director, Case Workers, and volunteers to ensure: the integrity of our information and systems, equitable care to all clients and client inquiries, and a solid public reputation.
The new Co-Director will share the responsibilities and duties of an executive director position with an existing director who has 7+ years of experience. The overall responsibilities of the executive team include:
- fundraising
- staff hiring and supervision
- program design and evaluation
- project management
- grant writing, board relations
- public speaking and advocacy
- financial planning and oversight
- community outreach
The selected candidate’s strongest skills and gifts will be balanced with that of their partner co-director so that each position is utilizing his or her strengths well, to the best benefit of the organization. This means that an ideal candidate will be someone who can communicate very openly, humbly, and honestly in order to evenly distribute responsibilities and duties.
Specific duties of the position will also include:
- Support the onboarding and organization of new hires
- Coordinate regular performance reviews, reward and discipline as needed, address complaints, and resolve problems
- Support the Board of Directors with regular board and committee meetings, and communicate any concerns or ways they need to support the organization
- Oversee client files and quality of records
- Support the continuous improvement of systems and processes
- Protect our clients and coworkers by keeping information confidential
- Work cooperatively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies
- Support BGN enrollment in community events; assist in event planning as needed
- From time to time, sit-down with New American clients, listen compassionately to their needs and stories, and assist in referring to the appropriate services when no case managers are present in the office
- Translate, as appropriate, and as able
- Share with in-office coworkers the responsibility of keeping shared spaces tidy
Qualifications
REQUIRED
- Minimum 3 years working with New Americans or English language learners
- Minimum 5 years experience supervising staff or in team leadership
- Associates Degree or international equivalent
- Authorization to work in the US
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven history of innovation, collaboration, and community involvement
- Proven organizational and project management abilities
- Strong cultural sensitivity and adaptability
PREFERRED
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (such as sociology, foreign language, social work, communications, management, business)
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and GoogleSuite products
- Comfortable working with electronic record systems
- Fluency in a second or third language is preferred
- Working knowledge of local and state resources for low-income families
- Deep sense of justice, compassion, and humility in working with others
Expectations and Compensation
LOCATION
The Global Neighbors Co-Director will be expected to be primarily in the office, with occasional remote work allowed to accommodate family, personal, and health needs.This job also requires community outreach visits to client homes, immigrant faith communities, and/or community events and occasional travel outside of Bismarck-Mandan.
HOURS
The in-office schedule for this position is 30 hours per week. BGN office hours are roughly scheduled Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm, although most staff are part-time and case workers are often out of the office with clients. Ideally, the Co-Director would commit to a set schedule of in-office work, as we receive a consistent volume of walk-in inquiries. This position could potentially grow very quickly into a full-time, 40/hour/week role, if desired. Needs for a reduction/increase in hours, or flexibility in location or scheduling, should be discussed with the BGN Board of Directors Executive Team.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is $27-$30 per hour, with 20 hours PTO per year offered after a 6 month probation period.
Global Neighbors is currently in the process of setting up a formal Human Resources packet which may allow for additional benefits for part- and full-time positions.
