Responsibilities

The CMA will function as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team under the direction of a registered nurse providing nursing care and other functions as assigned or delegated by the RN Charge Nurse. Function according to the State Nurse Practice Act, nursing policy and procedure, and the Mission and Philosophy of the Facility.

Since opening in 1952, CHI St. Alexius Health Garrison has been dedicated to serving the residents of Garrison, ND and the surrounding rural communities. CHI St. Alexius Health includes the Garrison Hospital and the Garrison Family Clinic. CHI St. Alexius Health Garrison includes the services of a 22-bed CAH, a 28-bed skilled nursing facility, an attached rural health clinic, and a newly remodeled emergency department that is available 24 hours a day. We offer many outpatient services, including physical therapy, radiology services, laboratory services, cardiac rehabilitation, and IV treatments.
Responsibilities
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Works under the supervision of the Charge Nurse. Function according to the State Nurse Practice Act, nursing policy and procedure, and the Mission and Philosophy of the Facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Admit assigned patients to unit
- Accurately record on assessment sheet, TPR, WT, BP and orientation to room, and input information in the computer/chart.
- Perform routine procedures such as TPR, BP and weight.
- Accurately identify all patients prior to start of tests or procedures.
- Vital signs and weights are taken as assigned and recorded on flow sheet/chart and/or computer.
- Record intake and output accurately in the computer/chart.
- Collect all specimens and empty drainage collections as assigned by nurse and are obtained according to procedure and labeled.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly (i.e. linen picked up, patient belongings in proper place)
- Set patients up for meals, assist with meals if needed, or fed if unable to do for self.
- Document amount of meal taken in percentage in computer/chart immediately.
- Signal lights are answered promptly on all patients on unit, not just assigned patients.
- Personal care (i.e. hair combed, oral cares, bath, back rubs) completed on each patient assigned daily according to Policy & Procedure and reports any patient problems or changes to the nurse in charge of patient.
Qualifications
Education: Must be certified by ND Department of Health as CMA II meeting the requirements of the NDAC 33-43-01-14 or 33-43-01-15.
Licensure: Certificate for CMA II
Experience: CNA that has taken and passed CMA course.
Skills: Current certification in CPR within orientation period and renew annually. Oral and written skills. Keen vision and hearing. Attend in-service/meetings and keep current on work related issues – 12 hours CEU/year.
