Denver Human Services is seeking a Director to lead Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services into a new era in line with Mayor Michael Hancock's mission to create a world class city where everyone matters. As the Division Director, you will be charged with:

  • Overseeing child welfare services and adult protective services in accordance with the department's statutory mandate
  • Developing and maintaining sound relationships with key inter-departmental resources and external stakeholders to support the division's strategic priorities
  • Managing a wide range of contract and grant activities within the Division to ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Maintaining division operations in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Developing division staff within the Human Together strategic framework, with an emphasis on increasing equity & access, ensuring safety & wellness, improving connectivity, encouraging economic resilience, and supporting our workforce
  • Managing the division's process improvement efforts consistent with Lean principles
  • Working closely with division partners to develop and interpret city, state, and federal child welfare policy
  • Performing other duties as defined

About You

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Experience participating in practice, policy and agenda setting in Child Welfare and/or Adult Protection at a local, state or Federal level
  • Experience leading cultural and organizational change in a complex setting
  • Experience working with formal process improvement methodologies
  • At least a Bachelor's Degree or greater in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or a closely related field
  • A working knowledge of Colorado State Child Welfare statute and regulation

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field based on a specific position
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management (comparable to at least "Manager" in the City's internal management classification series)
  • Education & Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Licensure and/or Certification: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
