The Opportunity
Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) seeks a senior-level executive to oversee nursing policy and practice across SRN. Reporting to the President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Network (SRN), the CNO will serve as the executive responsible for nursing across all SRN inpatient, outpatient, and post-acute sites, programs, and services.
The CNO will be a nationally recognized leader and a trusted colleague, known for promoting and assuring the development of evidence-based policy and practice standards, executed in a manner that results in high-quality, safe patient care, meeting the highest ethical standards. Additionally, the CNO models and promotes the principles of a just culture for all and ensures that that all nursing education and research is conducted with the highest degree of professionalism.
Specifically, the CNO, through Associate Chief Nurses, Departmental Directors, Nursing Directors, and Administrators, across SRN, and in collaboration with other members of the MGB leadership team, oversees all of nursing policy and practice. In this capacity, the CNO maintains overall responsibility for:
- Nursing policy and standards;
- Clinical practice evaluation;
- Nursing education and development;
- Utilization review and management; and
- Nursing recruitment.
In addition to leading nursing policy and practice, and again through associate chief nurses, departmental directors, nursing directors, and administrators, across SRN, and in collaboration with other members of the SRN leadership team, directs the delivery of patient care across SRN and serves as the central authority and resource for the delivery of care at all other SRN sites.
Finally, the CNO, along with the Chief Medical Officer, SRN, leads SRN’s quality agenda, assuring delivery of high-quality care with a specific emphasis on patient safety.
The CNO will serve as a catalyst for hard-wiring MGB’s values in a manner that advances a culture of collegiality, collaboration, and clinical excellence across the enterprise, working closely with individuals across the System and leading SRN’s nursing efforts to ensure excellent coordination and communication among SRN and many clinicians who practice and support the care environment.
The successful candidate will be an executive with a proven track-record in a complex and high performing academic medical center or health system. They will be regarded as an engine for change and champion for value-based care, clinical excellence, patient safety, and patient experience. The ideal candidate is an enterprising, visible, transparent, and decisive leader and communicator who can foster relationships and collaborations by empowering staff and promoting trusted partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Nursing is preferred.
- NEA-BC required.
- Significant leadership in a complex tertiary care setting with progressive management responsibilities. Experience in an academic medical center with an active role in the educational and research communities is desirable.
- 10 + years of leadership service and experience in a union environment preferred.
- Licensed as a professional nurse in MA.
- Membership in appropriate professional organizations.
