Overview:
The Chair’s position is accompanied by faculty rank. The Chair provides strategic leadership to advance the teaching, research, and service/outreach missions of the GSE by working closely with the Dean, Program, faculty and staff, and other GSE leaders to ensure excellence in academic programs, curriculum development, and clinical fieldwork to prepare candidates for successful teacher certification in TESOL and Bilingual education. The Chair stays current on the most recent research and developments in the field and acts as the Program liaison with public and private school systems in order to develop and sustain strong partnerships. The Chair meets and models for faculty the expectations for scholarship teaching and service.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Leadership:
    • Upholds the mission values and goals of the College and the School
    • Serves as the primary advisor to the Dean and other GSE Program Chairs on areas related to Program specific matters
    • Serves on the Dean’s Academic Council
    • Represents the Program to students, faculty, administrators the profession and the general public
    • Actively fosters faculty, staff, and student learning including regular professional development opportunities
    • Provides leadership in program and course design and implementation, including regular review of program curricula and oversight of faculty learning communities
    • Develops and maintains strong partnerships with the relevant professional agencies as well as with public and private school systems
    • Maintains professional involvement in associations related to the discipline of and promotes involvement by faculty
    • Develops new programs to meet current needs in the education community
    • Provides program leadership for continuous improvement, state approval, and national accreditation
  • Administration:
    • Serves as overall manager of the Program including with respect to facilities, budget, and human resources
    • Supervises and evaluates the program’s instructional and administrative staff
    • Provides fiscal management and oversight of Program operations.
    • Provides advice to the Dean on overall GSE planning and accreditation matters
    • Conducts on-going program review through appropriate utilization of assessment data
    • Ensures that the program meets all standards and requirements of national accreditation and NYSED
    • Ensure that teacher candidates succeed on edTPA, ALST, EAS, and CST assessments or their equivalents
    • Assists with enrollment matters for the program
Qualifications:
Education Preparation and Training:
  • Earned doctorate in education or related field
  • Evidence of successful teaching within the disciple
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the college/ university level
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to foster professional and community partnerships
  • Demonstrated competence in project management
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration including budget management
  • Experience with academic program accreditation processes
  • Record of scholarship teaching commensurate with/eligible for academic rank of Associate Professor or higher
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, mentoring, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to relate to advise and encourage graduate students
  • Ability to communicate a compelling vision and to be a diplomatic, persuasive, and credible voice to a wide variety of audiences including the philanthropic community
  • Ability to recruit and sustain diverse and talented faculty members as well as to support faculty professional development at all levels

Maximum Salary: USD $112,100.00/Yr. Minimum Salary: USD $89,680.00/Yr.
