Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Job at United Alloy, Inc.
REPORTS TO: Quality Supervisor
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Quality Supervisor, the Certified Weld Inspector s primary function will be to authorize production after successful weld inspection. Secondarily, the CWI will also perform quality technician duties including the inspection of First Article (FA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) products with the associated reporting. The CWI will work to ensure that the products shipped meet the expectations of the customer and are delivered right the first time including any of the associated identification and documentation requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts D1.1 and D1.3 testing for new hires or the recertification of welders as needed
- Participate in the creation of welding procedures and welding techniques standardizing welding to D1.1 and D1.3 specifications
- Participates in the selection of new welding equipment in conjunction with the weld council and participates in welding equipment calibration and preventative maintenance activities
- Provide support as a CWI as required to verify, validate and approve welding
- Participates in the weld audit process to verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that welding is performed as required to the applicable procedure
- Provide necessary assistance to welders who do not meet minimum quality and efficiency requirements so they again meet/exceed quality and efficiency levels
- Maintain records, inspection results, and welder performance documentation
- Evaluates new developments in the industry for possible application to processes
- Participates in progress toward CAT 7SWE and maintenance of the program after compliance
- Work independently with little supervision while still delivering excellent results on time
- Has the authority to stop production when nonconforming parts are detected
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus an additional one (1) year of formal preparation
- 6-7 years of experience in a related production leadership role in a manufacturing environment
- Must be an American Welding Society (AWS) CWI
- Experienced in stainless, aluminum and mild structural steel welding with a solid understanding of metal fabrication concepts and processes and explicit knowledge of our welding, principles/ practices/equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
- Detail oriented, with exceptional problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
- Proficient at working well under pressure, multitasking and prioritizing
- Must be able to navigate in a Windows based computer environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Willingness to work flexible hours with a changing work schedule as needed to support production
