Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area. Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls. Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians. Checks X-rays for clarity of image, retaking when needed.
  • Maintains required records including patient records and daily logs. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
  • Requests outside images for upcoming appointments. Ensures images are available for surgery at outside facility, if necessary.
  • Assist physician in clinic including triaging and rooming patients, taking vital signs, collecting medical histories, data entry and order preparation
  • Assist office staff with administrative duties including scheduling and managing phone calls and messages.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education: Graduate of an accredited program in radiological technology

Experience: 1 year general x-ray experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered. Orthopaedic experience preferred, but not required.

Other Requirements: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Knowledge of PACS systems

Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally and engage with patients and coworkers in a professional way
  • Possess independent decision making skills
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Positioning patients properly for required orthopedic examinations
  • Identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor
  • Following infection control and radiological safety procedures
  • Lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required.
  • Apply written instructions and standardized work procedures to meet the needs of the practice
  • Current CPR certification

Mental/Physical Requirements: Standing six to eight hours per day during clinic hours, walking, stooping, and bending. Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients. Occasional stress during high-volume hours.

Hours: Approximately 25-30 hours/week during clinic hours (Monday-Friday 8am-8pm) occasionally extending beyond clinic open hours as required by the physician
