Summary / Objective:
This Buyer/Planner is responsible for supporting the team-buying relationship and process, interfacing with suppliers, obtaining delivery commitments, generation of orders to suppliers, as well as acting in a support capacity for senior team members as needed. The Buyer/Planner also resolve differences with suppliers on terms favorable to OTR.
Essential Functions:

- Communicates by telephone and e-mail with suppliers as well as OTR team members throughout the organization.
- Negotiates, secures and follows-up on supplier commitments to ensure timely deliveries of quality products while building strong supplier relations.
- Uses MRP to review the demand and take actions to adjust existing Purchase Orders.
- Issues new Purchase Orders.
- Maintains/Updates existing Purchase Orders with accurate data by reviewing Supplier Shipping reports.
- Works to reduce lead times and product deliveries with the lowest overall cost.
- Prioritizes and follows-up on material shortages to ensure timely delivery and minimize production slowdowns or shortages.
- Assists in resolving PO issues with suppliers relating to pricing, quantities and order related details.
- Creates and distributes orders to suppliers and freight companies.
- Provides analysis and documentation for the VP of Purchasing and Purchasing Manager to review.
- Works closely with Quality and Logistics to ensure goals are met.
- Communicates effectively often with team members and supervisors.
- Maintains positive rapport with suppliers to effectively resolve shipment or delivery issues.
- Other duties can be assigned based on company needs and employee capabilities.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. At times, the role will need to coordinate a group or a team in order to achieve company goals on an interim/project basis.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. At times, employee might be exposed to manufacturing environment, including forklift traffic, fumes, noise, and operating manufacturing equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. In order to meet our customer demands and internal objectives, at times this role will be required to work outside of the normal schedule, including weekends.
Travel:
There may be occasional local day travel or overnight travel as it related to training activities or support of assigned plants/locations.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience and/or education.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a multi-location and/or multi-state organization.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assimilate data into useful reports.
- Excellent communications skills required, with the ability to articulate solutions to complex issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; capable of learning and utilizing ERP systems to access data.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience working in a fast pace, high-growth company.
- Project Management experience.
- Manufacturing or Distribution experience.
- Strong Microsoft Office knowledge and application.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
