Essential duties

• Circulation Duties – Checking items in & out, shelving materials, readers advisory, registering new patrons for library cards.
• Customer Service – Assist patrons in locating materials. Assist patrons with computers, printing & faxing.
• Programming – Prepare & present story times to Pre-K children. Develop summer reading programs for school age children. Facilitate book club.
• Outreach- Prepare & present programs to summer reading camps at local schools and to local daycares.

Gaston County is continuously recruiting for Branch Library Assistants. Applicants who apply will be considered for all location vacancies. Details about the location of the vacancy will be discussed with applicants during the selection process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of high school or GED equivalency AND customer service experience where working with people was a large aspect of position, preferably in a library setting. Candidates must be experienced in the use of general office equipment, calculators and computerized data entry devices. A valid driver’s license is required. Must possess the ability to receive instructions and communicate with the public.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL OR ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule between 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Friday and between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturdays. Must have the physical ability to bend, stoop and lift books and other heavy loads and to stand for long periods of time. The candidate selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.

Pay: $13.82 - $21.42 per hour
